미국김치로 김치찌개 만들기

 미국 남부 앨라배마주 소도시 월마트에서도 김치를 살 수 있다!

미국 시골에서도 김치를 살 수 있다니, 세상 참 좋아졌다.

You can buy Kimchi even at Walmart in Alabama.

근처에 월마트가 2개 있는데 그 중 한 곳에서 김치를 판다.

김치를 엄청 좋아하고 찾아먹는 편은 아니었지만, 역시 한국인은 어쩔 수 없는걸까?

오랫동안 먹지 못하니까 속이 허~한 기분.

There are two Walmarts around my town.

One of them sells Kimchi.

I didn't like Kimchi very much back in Korea.

But I craved it since I hadn't had it for a long time.

월마트에서 김치를 파는 건 이전부터 알고 있었지만

맛이 이상할까 걱정돼서 그동안 안 사먹어보고 있었다.

I was aware of the Kimchi.

I was too afraid to try American style Kimchi.

오랜만에 들른 월마트에서는 꽤나 많은 한국 식료품을 팔고 있었다.

They have many kinds of Korean food.

 

사진에 있는 Bibigo 고추장, 정체를 알 수 없는 Korean Gochujang mayo

심지어 불고기 양념까지...

Bibigo Gochujang(sweet chilly pepper sauce),

Korean Gochujang Mayo(I don't even know what the heck that means.)

Even Korean Barbecue Sauce !

흠, 미국 시골에서도 살 만 한데?

H mart 안가도 살 수 있을 것만 같아! 

Wow, It's pretty good to live in a small town in southern America.

You don't even need to go to H mart. (a bit of exaggeeration)

김치찌개를 만들려고 돼지고기(thin pork)와 두부(tofu)를 샀다.

이 월마트 정말 좋은게 두부도 판다. *-_-*

I bought thin pork and tofu to make Kimchi stew.

I love this Walmart because they have tofu too.

초보요리사가 월마트김치로 만든 김치찌개 맛은...?

So, How was the stew this bad cook made?

다시다를 넣고, 두부와 돼지고기까지 합세했지만 뭔가 2% 부족한 맛.....

뭘까 뭐가 부족한걸까.

It turned out to be bland. not fully flavory.

What did I miss....?

처음 맛 본 미국김치 맛은 병에 SPICY라고 대문짝만하게 써있지만, 

 어린이들 먹으라고 물에 한번 헹궈준 듯한 심심한 맛이다.

Well, The American Kimchi itself tastes not SPICY for koreans.

It's like you made it for children.

그래서일까?

Is that WHY?

급하게 한국에서 받았던 건어물 멸치 투척!!!

멸치국물 싫어하지만, 이제 뭔가 국물에서 깊은 맛이 우러나온다~

I tried adding some anchovies from Korea.

I don't like anchovy-flavor very much.

But It worked ! Now it was more likely Korean Kimchi stew !

쿠쿠로 만든 흰 쌀밥과 미국김치로 만든 김치찌개 저녁식사!

White sticky rice cooked by CUCKOO (which is the best cooker in the world.)

AND Kimchi stew with American Kimchi.

향수병 초기증상인 분들에게 강추한다. 

결론 = 미국 김치도 김치다.

총평 ★★★☆☆

Here's the summary.

The kimchi was not bad. It was better than I expected.

I recommend this for Koreans who are suffering from Homesickness.
