11월 14일은 내가 미국 알라바마 주 현지 회사에 취업한 지 1년이 되는 날이었다. 한국에서는 6개월 남짓하는 공기업 인턴쉽만 해오다 미국에 와서 정직원이 된 케이스라서 1년을 맞이하는 건 굉장히 특별한 일이었다. 다행이 적성에 맞고 좋아하는 일을 찾아서 한국에서보다 훨씬 더 행복한 직장생활을 하고 있지만 그렇다고 일을 한다는 것이 매일이 쉽고 행복한 것은 아니었다. 그래서 더더욱 이 날을 기념하고 싶어서 업무를 일찍 마치고 찾아간 채터누가 맛집 알레이아.
It was my one year work anniversary in America on November 14th. I used to do 6 months long internships back in Korea, working for one year at the same company was very special to me. I am glad that I found a job that I am good at so most of the time I enjoy my job. But time to time I felt overwhelmed and questioned myself If I was good enough, and it made me unconfident. Anyway, I overcame that and made it to one year so I wanted to celebrate it at a fancy restaurant. So we headed to this Italian restaurant, Alleia, Chattanooga after work.
생각보다 레스토랑 내부가 훨씬 더 컸고 무료 발레파킹인지도 모르고 채터누가 추추 호텔 옆 공용주차장에 주차하고 걸어왔다. (1-2시간 기준 4불) 비가 추적추적 내리는 날씨임에도 불구하고 많은 사람들이 있었고 무엇보다 조명과 인테리어가 주는 분위기가 너무 좋았다.
The inside of restaurant was bigger that I thought, there were many people in there even though it was raining. We didn't know they offer you free valet parking, so we parked our car in the public parking lot next to Chattanooga Choo Choo. I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant.
서버분이 이탈리안 메뉴를 하나하나 짚어가며 생소한 단어가 있어도 부끄러워하지말고 물어보라고 하셨다. 우리는 피자, 파스타, 찐 홍합요리를 주문했다.
Our server went down the menu with us and explained some possibly unfamiliar Italian words to us. We ordered a pizza, pasta and steamed mussels.
이 피자가 후기에 많던데 정말 만족스러웠다. 이탤리언 햄과 아루굴라가 토핑으로 있고, 스모키한 모짜렐라치즈가 완벽하게 구워진 쫄깃한 도우 위에 'ㅅ'
When I tried a bite, I instantly understood why so many people reviewed this one. It had cured Italian ham, arugula and smoked mozzarella on a perfectly baked dough.
게눈 감추듯이 먹었다...ㅎ
We gobbled this up.
이건 남편이 주문한 스모키베이컨 파스타인데 스카일러 입맛에 딱이었다고 한다. 자기가 먹어본 파스타 중 최고라며, 뉴욕에서 먹은 것보다 나은 것 같다는 말까지 했다 -_-a
Skylar ordered this smoked bacon pasta. He really liked it and it was a lot, he couldn't finish it. Skylar said it was better than the New York pasta.
해산물 킬러인 나는 홍합요리를 그냥 지나칠 수 없어서 주문했다. 처음 먹었을 때 향긋한 허브향이 홍합과 잘 어울렸고, 저 크리미한 소스가 빵에 찍어먹으면 완벽했는데 먹으면 먹을 수록 홍합 안에 모래가 씹혔고 몇몇 홍합은 상한 맛이 들기도 했다. 나야 컴플레인을 잘 거는 성격이 아니라 그냥 넘어갈 수도 있었는데 서버분이 친절하기도 했고 이 식당이 개선되서 더 많은 사람들한테 사랑받길 바라는 마음에 솔직하게 말씀드렸더니 "흠...오케이?" 하고 홍합요리를 치워주셨다. 그리고 메뉴판을 가지고 오셔서 더 원하는 거 없냐고 물으시길래 디저트로 홈메이드 젤라토를 시켜 먹었다. 나중에 빌지를 가지고 오시더니 홍합요리는 빌지에서 뺐다고 하셨다; 그걸 기대한 건 아니었지만 그분이 알레이야는 귀기울여듣는다며 다음에 또 보자고 하셨다. (나중에 다시 한번 방문하고 싶어지는 피드백이었고 홍합요리를 제외하고는 정말 추천하는 레스토랑이다.)
I am a seafood lover, I couldn't help ordering the steamed mussels. It had some herbal & aromatic flavor and the broth was creamy and spicy. It was really good with the bread! But the more mussels I ate, the more sand I found and some mussels didn't taste fresh but they were going bad. I could have not told the server about this, but I just wanted this restaurant to be better. So I let him know what I honestly thought about this dish. And he reacted like "hm...? Okay...?" and took the dish. He brought me the menu back and asked me "anything else?" I didn't know that he was asking me if I wanted to order some other main dish. So I told him I wanted a dessert lol. And the homemade Gelato was really good. When he brought me the check, he told me that he didn't charge me the mussels. I didn't expect him to do that but he said "This is Alleia. We listen and we want you to come back."
주차장으로 돌아가는 길에 채터누가 추추 호텔 안에 있는 트리가 눈에 띄어 잠시 들어가봤다.
On our way back to our car, we spotted this giant Christmas tree in Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel.
내년 이맘 때 쯤이면 미국 직장생활 2년차가 되어 있겠지. 그때는 얼마나 더 괜찮은 내가 되어있을지 기대가 된다. 그리고 항상 응원해주고 내 편이 되어주는 스카일러한테도 고맙다.
I will have been working for 2 years by this time next year. I am excited to see how better I will be then. I appreciate my husband cheering me up and always being on my side. <333
