스위스 수도 베른 구시가지 Old town in Bern

비가 올 예정이었던 날, 그린델발트에서 그리 멀지 않은 스위스의 수도 베른에 가보기로 했다.

On a rainy day during our trip, we decided to check out the capital city, Bern.

베른 시계탑 Zytglogge

베른에는 랜드마크로 유명한 시계탑 치트글로게를 보기 위해 발걸음을 재촉했다. 스위스도 인구밀도가 꽤나 높다고 하는데, 트램에 사람들이 꽉 차 있는 걸 보니 그 말이 실감이 났다.

There is a popular clock tower Zytglogge in Bern. We were heading to the tower from the station. I heard Switzerland was one of dense countries in the world. The tram was packed with people.

유럽은 스위스가 처음인데, 여태 스위스 산악지대에 머물다가 도시로 나와보니 또 달랐다. 

Switzerland was our first Europe county. Swiss city Bern looked very different from its mountainous places.

이 곳이 그 유명한 시계탑인 치트글로게. 어찌나 사람이 북적이는지 무슨 일이 있는가 싶어보니, 마라톤이 있는 날이었다. 마라톤 행렬이 끊이지 않아 이 도시 사람들 전부 참여했는지 의문이 들 정도였다.

This is the clock tower. We were wondering why there were so many people around there. It turned out there was an amateur marathon on the day. How many people were participating, it made me think most of Bern people were doing it.

바쁜 도시 속에서 이렇게 열정적으로 운동하는 사람들을 보니 동기부여가 됐다. 그리고 유럽에서는 모두들 날렵한 몸매를 가지고 있는 것도 인상적이었다.

In a busy city like this, so many people were enthusiastically running. Even though not everybody ran very well. They wouldn't easily give up. It motivated me a lot. Also, most of Swiss people looked in shape.

마라톤을 구경하는 군중 속에서 in a crowd

오래된 건물들을 기나긴 시간 동안 잘 간직해왔는지 도로도 정말 깨끗했고 건축물들이 조화로웠던 것도 인상깊었다. 도시 경관이 정말이지 아름다웠던 수도 베른. 

They must have put effort to keep these old buildings in a good condition. The streets were clean. It was impressive.

통일감있는 건축 스타일이 도시 경관을 더욱 정돈되게 만들었다. 흐린 날씨임에도 붉은 색의 지붕이 초록빛 들판과 대조되는 게 잘 보였다.

They had similar style houses to make the city look good. Even though it was a rainy day, the city looked beautiful.

마라톤 참여자들에게 방해가 되지 않게 오랜 시간 기다려 잽싸게 길을 건너왔다. 언덕을 올라 도시를 한 눈에 바라볼 수 있는 곳으로 향했다.

We carefully walked across not to disturb the marathoners. We went up to a steep hill to look down to the city.

아직도 끝나지 않은 마라톤 행렬, 그 뒤로 베른 구 시가지의 모습이 잘 보인다.

From this hill, we could see the old town better.

힘겹게 언덕을 올라와 점심을 먹으려고 이 식당에 갔더니 예약하지 않았다면 테이블이 없다는 소식을 들었다. 이렇게 큰 마라톤 행사가 있는데, 가장 뷰가 좋은 식당에 테이블이 남아있을리 만무하다.

The reason why we walked all the way up here was to go to this restaurant with the best view. When we walked in there, the waiter asked us if we had a reservation. On a day with a huge event, this place gets so much popular. We were too naive to walk in this restaurant hoping to get a table.

힘들게 올라와서 눈에 초점을 잃어버린 스카일러

Skylar was tired lol.

비도 점점 거세지고, 사이렌 소리도 커져 더이상의 구경은 불가능했다. 가는 길에 한식집이 있길래 들렀더니, 한국인이 운영하는 한식집이 아니고 토종 스위스 분이 운영하는 예약제의 고급 한정식 집인지라 또 예약이 꽉 차있다며!! 이 날은 먹을 복이 없어, 다시 베른 기차역으로 돌아가 우리가 애정하는 쿱에서 간단한 요깃거리를 사서 기차에서 끼니를 해결하였다.

It started pouring, siren noises were everywhere. We decided to head back to home. We stopped by a Korean restaurant on the way back to the station for lunch, the restaurant was not run by a Korean person and it was super fancy one. We couldn't get a table there either. We got some snack at coop in the station and ate it in the train.

마카롱은 맛이 없었지만, 이런 것도 다 추억이라며 긍정적으로 생각했던 날. 그린델발트에서 갈아타지 않고 베른으로 갈 수 있어서 편리했던 당일치기 여행이었다.

Not everyday can be perfect. That is another fun thing about traveling. It was still good to check out the capital city Bern.
