[스위스여행] 그린델발트에서 피르스트 정상까지 Mt. First

　　매일 스위스 날씨 앱을 체크해 날씨가 가장 맑은 날에 피르스트에 올라가기로 했다. 피르스트는 그린델발트에 위치해 있어 미리암네 숙소에서 걸어갈 수 있는 거리였다. 스위스 여행에서 날씨가 그날의 목적지를 결정할 정도로 중요하다. 특히 우리가 간 5월에는 중간 중간 소나기가 내리는 날이 잦았는데, 이 날 만큼은 하루종일 해가 떠있는 맑은 날이었다.

　　We checked Swiss weather app everyday to go up to Mt. First on the sunniest day. Mt. First is located in Grindelwald. It was really easy to get there from our Airbnb. Weather is the most critical factor that decides where to go on the day in Switzerland. Especially in May, the weather is unpredictable and there is a higher chance of showers. This day was the perfect day to go to Mt. First.

피르스트 승강장 가는 길 Heading to Mt. First

우리가 묵은 미리암 에어비앤비 주변에는 정말 아름다운 들판이 펼쳐진다. 샬레와 스위스 들꽃을 배경으로 사진을 몇 장 찍었다. 보다시피 이 날은 아침부터 해가 쨍쨍 내리쬐었다.

It was really pretty near Myriam's airbnb. We took a few pictures with Swiss chalets and dandelions in the background. It was sunny from the morning.

해가 생각보다 강렬해 산에 오르기 전 쿱에 들려 모자를 샀다. 두피가 탈까 걱정이 되었다.

It was brighter than I thought it would be. It worried me about sunburning my scalp. We stopped by Coop and bought me a cap.

그린델발트-피르스트 티켓판매소 First Cable Car Station

사실 케이블카 승강장이 어딘지 모르고 그냥 대충 쿱 방향으로 쭉 가다보면 있겠거니 했는데 맞았다. 저 위에 그린델발트-피르스트라고 써있는 건물에 들어가면 펀패키지 혹은 케이블카 티켓을 구입할 수 있다. 우리는 왕복 케이블카 티켓만 샀는데 나중에 내려오는 길에 트로티바이크를 해보고 싶어서 그 위에서 추가로 액티비티 이용권을 구입하였다.

Honestly I didn't look up where the cable car station / ticket place was. I just knew it would be somewhere over the Coop. When you walk into the building, you can buy tickets for cable car and activities. We only bought return tickets for the cable car at first, we eventually changed our mind to try one activity later. We could buy the tickets on the mountains.

피르스트 케이블카 Mt. First Cable Car

피르스트 정상까지 얼마나 걸릴지 알지 못한채 덜컥 케이블 카부터 탄 우리. 보니까 케이블이 끝나질 않는다;; 이렇게 긴 케이블 카는 여기가 처음이었다. 점점 표정이 어두워지는 스카일러. 나도 겁이 나기 시작했는데 스위스 장인정신을 되새기며 안전하겠거니 생각했다. 

We had no idea how long we would be stuck in a cable car. It felt like it would never end. That was the longest cable car we have ever been in. Skylar face was getting darker. I started getting scared. I had to remind myself how professional Swiss people are.

어느새 초록빛 들판은 온데간데 사라지고 하얀 눈밭만 보이기 시작했다. 그래도 배경음악이라도 좀 깔아줬으면 나았을텐데 케이블카에 앉아 올라오는 내내 삐그덕- 끼익- 바람 소리까지 생생하게 들려서 더 무서웠다.

By the time we looked out through the windows, the green fields were gone but white snow. I wish they had background music in the cable car at least. We could hear all the squeaky noises. It scared us more.

피르스트 정상 Top of Mt. First

정상에 다다라 케이블카에서 내리니 보이는 건 온통 흰 눈 뿐이었다!! 눈 쌓인 걸 좀처럼 보기 힘든 미국 남부 앨라배마에서 온 우리 둘은 감탄만 내뱉었다. 눈에 반사되는 광량이 엄청나서 서둘러 선글라스를 꺼냈다. (선글라스 필수!!!)

Everything was snow when we got out of the cable car. We were so amazed by this amount of snow since we were from Alabama where it hardly ever snows a lot. Also, it was super bright because of reflection. We hurried to put on sunglasses.

순백의 눈 밭 때문인지 마음도 왠지 고요해지는 것만 같았다. 

Surrounding this much snow seemed to make everything so quiet and calm.

안개가 껴 더욱 고립된 느낌이었는데 온 세상이 하얬다. 그 와중에 알록달록한 사람들의 외투가 돋보였다. 배경을 다 지우고 피사체만 딱 보이게 만들어 놓은 것 같았다. 이렇게 주변이 조용한 경관도 처음이지 않았나 싶다.

It was probably because of the fog as well. It made us feel isolated. Meanwhile people's colorful jackets were popping out.

그 와중에 이렇게 높은 곳에도 영업 중인 레스토랑이 있다는 게 참 신기했다.

It was amazing that they have restaurants at this high altitude.

스카일러가 말하길, 피르스트 눈이 눈싸움하기에 최고로 좋은 눈이라고 그랬다. ㅋㅋ 단단하게 잘 뭉쳐지긴 하더라.

Skylar thought the snow was perfect for a snowball fight. It did get firm easily.

클리프워크 Cliff Walk

눈 밭을 좀 더 걷다보면 그 유명한 클리프워크, 절벽 위에 세워진 철제 다리가 보인다. 스카일러는 괜시리 더 무섭게 저 그물망 앞에서 미끄러지기도 했다. 말 그래도 절벽에 만들어진 다리인만큼 조심 또 조심해야한다. 우리 둘다 쫄보라서 클리프워크를 다 건너는 건 무리고 그냥 사진만 좀 찍고 돌아오기로 했다.

When we walked a bit more through the snow field, we faced the Cliff walk. Skylar fell near the mesh fence. You need to be very careful since its right at the edge of cliff. We didn't want to walk along the Cliff walk but take a couple of pictures and come back out.

피르스트 카페테리아 Cafeteria at Mt. First

금강산도 식후경, 피르스트도 식후경!! 클리프워크에서 승강장 쪽으로 되돌아오면 카페테리아가 마련되어 있다. 이렇게 높은 고지에 있는 관광지 식당에 큰 기대는 하지 않았는데 나름 메뉴도 제법 많고 사실 맛도 놀랄만큼 좋았다.

We came back from the Cliff walk and went to this cafeteria. We didn't really expect this restaurant dishes to be very good. But they had a variety of dishes and the dishes we got were pretty good.

내가 고른 굴라쉬라는 수프와 소고기 요리. 사실 사진보고 고른 거라 이름 따윈 모른다. 예상가능한 맛. 스위스 물가 치고 그리 비싸지도 않은 데다가 맛도 생각보다 좋고 특히 저 수프가 정말로 맛있었다.

I ordered Goulash and some beef dish. I only looked at pictures of food and picked one I liked. So I don't know the name of the dish. The price was reasonable and the food was good. Specially the soup was really good.

스카일러가 고른 건 독일식 돈까스 슈니첼이었는데 즉석에서 냉동 돈까스를 튀겨준다. 그래서 맛을 기대하지 않았는데, 냉동이라는 사실도 까먹게 할 만큼 진짜 괜찮은 요리였다. 피르스트 정상에 올라와서 이 카페테리아에서 식사하는 것 개인적으로 추천이다.

Skylar got a Schnitzel. They cooked frozen pre-made cutlet. So neither of us didn't really think it would be good. But it was actually really tasty. I recommend checking out this cafeteria and having a meal here.

피르스트 전망대 Observation deck

허기도 달랬겠다, 본격적으로 식당을 나와 정상에서의 경치를 감상하기로 했다.

We enjoyed the meal and were ready to enjoy the view!

맑은 날씨 덕분인지 경치가 정말 끝내줬다.

Thanks to the weather, it was beautiful.

약간의 안개와 구름이 산 정상에 걸려있어 산봉우리들이 완벽하게 보이진 않았지만 구름 사이 사이로 고개를 빼꼼 내밀 때를 잘 포착했다.

Even though the peaks got covered by clouds time to time. We captured the best moments.

클리프워크를 완주는 못했어도 포토스팟 정도까지는 도전해볼 수 있지 않을까해서 남편을 꼬드겼더니 사진을 찍기 위해 줄 서 있다가 도망가버렸다.

We couldn't walk all the way along the Cliff walk, but I thought we could try taking pictures at the end of the Cliff walk. We were in a huge line waiting for our turn. Skylar gave up and ran away.

그러더니 되돌아가서 저기서 줄 서 있는 나를 사진찍고 있었다. 스위스까지 와서, 그것도 피르스트 정상까지 와서 사진 하나 제대로 찍고 가야겠다는 내 일념 하나로 남편 없이 꿋꿋하게 줄 서서 사진 찍었다.

He headed back where he was and was taking pictures of me waiting in line a wayyyyyy over there. I couldn't give up on this chance when I don't know if I will have another chance to come to Switzerland. So I stayed there all alone.

졸지에 혼자 스위스 여행 온 것 같았던 나 I ended up seeming like a solo traveler

마침 내 앞뒤로 한국인 여행객들이 있었는데, 내 앞에 있던 잉꼬 신혼부부의 사진을 많이 찍어드리고 그분들도 내 사진을 찍어주셨다. 그러더니 나보고 혼자 왔냐고 물으시길래, 사실 남편이랑 왔는데 무서워서 저기로 도망갔다고 그랬더니 여기까지 와서 그러시면 안된다고 그랬다. 나중에 내가 이 말을 스카일러에게 전해주고 우리 같이 사진찍어야한다고 그랬더니, 스카일러도 결국 마음을 바꿨다.

There were Korean travelers in front and behind. I took many pictures of the newlyweds and they took some photos of me. They asked me if I came here alone. I answered my husband was here with me until a minute ago and he got too afraid of being here. They felt for me saying "Oh, he shouldn't be like that in Switzerland!!!". LOL. I told Skylar that later and he changed his mind.

기념품 샵에 들러 마침 스위스 국기를 발견하곤 우리 이 깃발 사서 사진 찍자고 했다. 또 다시 긴 줄에 합세하여 마침내 우리 차례가 왔다. 

Before we came back to this photo spot, we were in the gift shop. I found the Swiss flag there and took pictures with it.

무서워서 소심하게 깃발 든 스카일러, 그와 반대로 나름 두번째라며 좀 더 용감해진 나. 다음 포스팅에서는 피르스트 액티비티인 트로티바이크 체험기를 들고 올 예정이다.

You can tell Skylar was scared by the way he held the flag lol while I was even more brave at the second time. In next post, I am going to post about Trottibike - one of activities at Mt. First.
