[시카고여행] 루말나티스 딥디쉬 피자 Lou Malnati's 시카고 첫인상과 도시조경

호텔 방 체크인을 한 뒤, 우버를 타고 버킹엄 분수 근처에 위치한 루말나티스에서 내렸다. 그 근처에 루말나티스가 있어서 시카고에 왔으니 시카고 딥디쉬 피자를 도전해보기로 했다.

We checked in our hotel, took Uber down to Lou Malnati's near Buckingham fountain. We wanted to try Chicago deep-dish pizza at one of the most popular pizza places near the park.

루말나티스 Lou Malnati's Pizzeria

루말나티스 같은 경우에도 다운타운 내에 여러 지점이 있다. 우리가 간 곳은 805 S South St에 위치한 루 말나티스. 오후 두시가 넘은 시점에서 처음 우버에서 내릴 때 긴 줄이 보여서 큰일났다고 생각했는데, 반은 웨이팅 반은 픽업 줄이었다. 아무튼 가게 안에 들어가 줄을 서서 점원에게 연락처를 주면, 핸드폰으로 앞에 몇명 남았다고 실시간 업데이트가 된다.

Lou Malnati's has many branches in downtown. The one we went to was on 805 S South St. We saw such a long line when we got out of the Uber around 2 P.M., half of the line was for pick-up and the other was for actual waiting. We went in and gave our phone number and you can get live updates of your place in line.

그렇게 1시간 반 정도 기다림 끝에 드디어 입성한 루말나티스. 사진을 보니 눈이 충혈되어 있네. 아무튼 오랜 기다림 끝에 드디어 메뉴를 고를 수 있었다.

After one and a half of waiting, we got a table. I didn't know I had red eyes until now lol. We picked appetizers. 

기나긴 기다림에 지친 스카일러 Skylar was tired of waiting

나는 샐러드가 정말 맛있다는 소문을 듣고, 샐러드와 식전 수프를 주문하였다. 아마도 마인스톤이라는 이름이었던듯?

My people recommend this place's salads. We order one salad and a soup, named minestone..?

샐러드 존-맛. 이게 제일 맛있다. 피자 맛집이 아니고 샐러드 맛집 샐러드 장인, 루말나티스. 무슨 특제 소스인건지 적당히 짭조름하면서 감칠맛도는 흔한 맛인데 시판에 유통되지 않는 샐러드 드레싱 맛.

THE SALAD WAS GOOOD. I would call this place a best salad place! I don't know what kind of the salad dressing was, but it was so good.

첫 맛은 샐러드처럼 엄청나게 맛있거나 한 건 아니었다. 난 뜨거운 수프가 좋은데 이건 약간 미지근했다. 근데 시간이 갈수록 점점 맛있어지는 신기한 수프. 스카일러는 첨부터 맛있다고 했긴 했다만, 아 이거 무슨 맛이랑 비슷했는데 기억이 가물가물하다. 공복감을 달래주면서 그렇게 또 배가 꽉 차지는 않는 훌륭한 에피타이저(라고 쓰고 거의 메인디쉬)였던 수프.

The soup wasn't as good as the salad. Skylar liked it. I prefer very hot(temperature) soup but this was not very hot. But it got better and better as time went. 

에피타이저가 나오고도 한참을 기다려서 받은 시카고 클래식 피자? 이름이 이거였던듯. 프로페셔널한 서버가 순식간에 저 두꺼운 도우의 피자를 두조각 잘라서 접시에 올려준다. 엄청나게 헤비한 맛. 나는 워낙에 얇은 도우 피자를 좋아하기도 하고, 피자 자체를 좋아하는 식성은 아니라서 한번의 경험으로만 만족했던 시카고 딥디쉬. 스카일러도 도우가 너무 두껍다고 했고, 자기 스타일의 피자가 아니라고 그랬다. 우리 둘다 100% 만족한 피자는 아니었다.

We had to wait a bit for our pizza to be served. I believe the name was Chicago Classic. something like that. Our server sliced the pizza into two perfect slices quickly and moved them onto our places. The taste was very heavy and greedy with a lot of meat in it. I am not a pizza person and I prefer thin-dough pizza. It was a good one-time experience. Skylar wasn't very happy with the pizza either.

그럼에도 이번이 우리의 첫 시카고 여행이니, 딥디쉬 맛을 본 것으로 만족. 샐러드 존맛탱....

We were in Chicago for the first time and we had a taste of deep-dish!

시카고 길거리 조경 Landscaping in downtown

시카 고여행에 대한 큰 기대는 없었는데, 막상 시카고 시내에 와서 보니 생각 그 이상으로 좋았다. 도시조경이 정말 감탄스러웠던게 여기는 은행 앞 골목인데도 화단이 너무 예쁘게 꾸며져있었다. 이 도시에서 라임라이트 수국을 많이 본 바람에 시카고 여행에서 돌아온 지금, 내 화단에도 저 나무수국이 심겨져있다.

My first impression about downtown Chicago exceeded my expectations. I loved the landscaping, selection of flowers for street gardens. Even this one in the picture above, it is a flower bed for a bank. I saw so many limelight hydrangeas everywhere in Chicago, now I have one in my flower bed.

There is another limelight in the flower bed in the middle of the street.

이 공원은 버킹엄 분수에서 좀 더 남쪽에 있는 정원인데, 나무 식재나 전체적 조경이 정말이지 너무 멋졌다!

This garden is more south from Buckingham fountain. I loved the look of this garden.

특히 이 옹기종기 모여있는 사철나무. 어떻게 이렇게 귀엽게 깍았을까? 내 헷지트리밍 실력은 갈 길이 멀다.

I really liked the shape of hedges particularly. How could they have trimmed like this? I want to hedge-trim mines like this.

걸어서 거의 버킹엄 분수까지 도착한 우리. 여기 빌딩도 도시 조경에 단단히 한 몫한다. 역시 건축하면 시카고!! 깨끗한 도로와 멋진 조경 그리고 다양한 스타일의 건축물이 한 데 모인 도시였던 시카고, 완전 마음에 들었다.

We were almost at the Buckingham fountain. Look at all the buildings here. Chicago is well-known for its architecture. There are nice looking buildings, clean streets and cool landscaping all in downtown Chicago.
