미국 주택 화단에 영국장미(데이비드오스틴) 심기 Jude the Obscure of David Austin Roses

 

1961년부터 장미 농사를 시작하신 고 데이비드 할아버지

 

 

작년 가을에 온라인주문했던 유명한 영국장미인 데이비드오스틴의 《주드 디 옵스큐어》가 드.디.어. 3월 초 우리집에 도착했다. 미국은 워낙 넓기 때문에 주 별로 기온과 기후가 달라, 데이비드오스틴에서는 장미를 심기에 적정한 온도가 되었을 때야 비로소 주문한 장미를 발송해준다.

I pur a pre-order for an English rose online last Fall. The rose was finally delievered in early March. They ship roses when the weather is warm enough for roses to be planted outside.

오랜 기다림 끝에 만난 연노랑/코랄색의 주드 디 옵스큐어⚘ 딱 봐도 이건 아기장미가 아니라 거의 장미 나무를 보내줬다. 저 가지 두께가 굉장히 두껍고 건강하다는게 느껴졌다. 얼마 전 들른 알디(마트)에서 부츠를 사와서 이걸 신고 장미를 심으러 나갔다.

The variety of the rose is Jude the Obscure. The plant looked so healthy and big. I bought a pair of boots for my gardening work at Aldi. I put them on to plant this bare root rose right away.

 

 

 

나한테 맞는 사이즈가 이 디자인 하나 밖에 안남아서 울며 겨자먹기로 샀다. ㅠㅠ

I wasn't happy with the design of the boots, but this was the only ones available for my size.

 

 

ㅋㅋㅋ 2020년 미국 시골 아낙네 패션

 

아직 3월이라 퇴근 직후에 날이 엄어두웠는데도 서둘러 땅을 파서 장미를 심었다. (이웃들이 이상하다고 생각했을듯) 왜냐면, 이렇게 뿌리가 드러난 채로 배송오는 식물들은 땅 밖에 내버려둘 수록 안좋기 때문이다.

I hurried and digged the ground right after work. It was raining and dark. I am sure my neighbors would think I am crazy lol. I didn't want to leave the bare root exposed for a long time when it had already traveled acroos the U.S.

 

 

 

 

그렇게해서 밤에 심고, 그 다음 날 아침에 찍은 사진. 아직 마음에 안든다. ㅠㅠ 왜냐면, 작약이 바로 그 뒤에 있어서 얘를 또 다른 곳으로 옮겨주고, 보스코벨(핑크색 장미)도 조금 더 뒤로 가야 나중에 자랄 때 공간이 여유로울 것 같았다.

This photo was taken next morning. I still didn't like where the rose was planted. Because there was a peony right behind it. Also I wanted to move the other rose apart from the daffodils so it can have some room to grow later on.

 

 

 그래서 작약을 옮기려고 시작한 일이.... 나무수국을 전면배치하고 그 수국 자리에 작약을 놓기로 했다. 그러려다보니 튤립니 여기저기 심어져있는데 거슬려서 결국은 다 파냈다...ㅋㅋ

I only inteded to transplant the peony and it caused a huge amount of work. To plant the peony in a better spot, I had to move the hydrangea forward, to plant it there I had to dig out all the other plants in this corner flower bed.

이토 작약 줄리아로즈

작고 소중한 심장같은 작약을 뽑아 새 자리로 이동

 

드디어 드디어 마음에 드는 레이아웃이 나왔다. 근데 하도 땅을 파헤쳤더니 흙이랑 멀치가 뒤범벅이 되어 결과물이 이렇다... ㅎ 멀치를 새로 해줘야 하는데 내일 로우스(미국 가드닝센터)가서 사와야 할 것 같다.(함정은 이것도 다음날 맘에 안들어서 다시 자리배치함 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ)

Finally I planted everything in the right spot. But now the flower bed looks messy. Dirt and mulch was mixed. I need to go to Lowe's to get some mulch. (I realized I didn't like this result either later lol)

 

 

 

이쪽 코너화단은 아침부터 오후내내 양지라 여름에 정말 뜨거워진다. 작약은 햇빛을 좋아해서 이쪽으로 옮겨줬고, 라임라이트 수국을 전면 배치 했다. 달리아 구근을 사놓고 여태 안심은 게 기억나서 열어봤더니 구근이 말라 비틀어져 있었더 ㅠㅠ 자랄지 안자랄지 모르겠지만 일단 심어봄... 눈치챘을지도 모르지만 꿩의 비름 다닥다닥 붙이기로 했음. 앞으로도 이곳에 심을 것이 많기 땜에ㅎ

The reason why I planted the peony here was because this spot gets full-sun all day long. Peonies like full-sun. So I moved the hydrangea to the front and put the Autumn joy sedums together. I remembered of the dahlia I bought last winter. When I took them out of the bag, the bulbs looked pretty dry. I wasn't sure if it was even alive. I just went ahead and planted them.

 

 

멀치하려고 했더니 바늘꽃 죽은 가지들이 눈에 밟혀서 전지해주기로 함... 장미 하나 심으려고 했던 일이 이렇게나 커져버림 ㅎ 아무튼 언젠간 해야할 일이었으니 했다.

Now I noticed the gaura's dead stems. I trimmed them so well before mulching.

They look so tidy and neat now! Skylar said they looked alive now lol.

 

 

 

 

 넘 지저분해서 이쪽 코너화단이라도 일단 멀치를 했다. 멀치가 염색한 나무 조각들이라서 멀치백 안에 물이 많이 고여있는 바람에 비닐 사이로 검정 물이 나와서 아스팔트를 염색시켰다 웁스 ㅡㅡ 일이 더 더 커짐 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

I dragged the mulch bag near the flower bed. A lot of water was in the bag and it was leaking. It instantly died my driveway. OH NO.

 

 

물을 뿌리고 빗자루로 쓸어봤으나 역부족... 으아아악

I tried pouring some water and sweeping it so hard. It didn't work.

 

 

나와라 프레셔워셔!!!! ㅡㅡㅋ 없는 것 빼고 다 있는 우리집 차고 ㅎ 그래서 프레셔워셔를 사용해서 청소하려고 했더니 호스 옮기고 전원 꼽고ㅠ 귀찮아서 오늘은 포기 ㅎㅎㅎ(황당 결론)

So now I have only option to clean it off. The pressure washer! But even to use this, I had to pull the heavy water hose out and plug it... I gave up. What do we say to the god of death? "Not today."

 

심지어 처음 심었던 자리가 맘에 안들어서 두 장미 그루를 뽑아서 자리 옮겨줬다 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 그래서 여기도 흙이 난리가 나서 멀치를 급하게 해줌 ㅎ ㅠ

I moved the rose Jude the Obscure closer to the evergreen tree and moved the other rose Boscobell toward the back. Now this part looks messy as well.

이제 좀 나아보이는 화단.... 잔디밭에 잡초도 난리났음 잡초관리도 이번 달 안으로 할 예정!!! 포스팅 할 거리가 많아서 좋긴한데 일거리도 많다는 점 ^^!!!!!!! 정원 일은 끝이 나질 않는구나 그래도 재밌당 ❤❤❤❤🙆‍♀️

I guess I am happy with how it looks now? It was tremendous amount of work. But I really enjoy gardening. Next project is to kill all the weeds in the front yard. Gardening never ends!!
