내 텃밭에 새로 추가 된 식물은 아보카도 씨앗, 불꽃맨드라미, 목화랑 토마토다.
My new plants are avocado, celosia, cotton, and tomatoes.
먼저 내 아삭이 고추는 수확할 준비가 다 되었다.
첫 고추 농사였는데 잘 커주어서 뿌듯하다.
윤기도 자르르 흐르는게 과연 맛도 좋을지 궁금하다.
My first A-Sak-Ee pepper is ready to be harvested!
I'm proud of having a green thumb.
It looks shiny! I wonder if the taste is good too.
한 아삭이 고추 나무에 벌써 5개나 열렸다. 그 위로 엄청난 고추 꽃들이 피어있음.
There are 5 peppers on the same plant.
There are so many flowers above them as well.
왼쪽은 꽈리고추, 오른쪽이 아삭이고추인데 키 차이가 많이 난다.
왜인지는 모르겠지만 아삭이 고추 나무가 훨씬 큼.
Left one is Ggua-Ri, Right one is A-Sak-Ee.
A-Sak-Ee is way taller for some reason.
바질도 두개 심은 거 100프로 발아해서 둘다 쑥쑥 잘 자라고 있다.
바질 물 주는 법은 따로 없고, 그냥 하루에 한번씩 주는데
미국 남부는 워낙 햇볕이 강해 오전에 물을 줘도 오후에 나가 잎을 만져볼 때 흐물흐물한 경우가 있다.
그럴 땐 추가로 물을 더 주고 있는 중.
I only planted 2 basil seeds and they all germinated and are still growing fine.
There are no strict rules how to water them.
I just water basil every morning.
Sometimes when it's so sunny, the leaves get wilted then I water them a little bit more in the afternoon.
이건 시엄마가 보내주신 촛불맨드라미.
처음엔 분꽃인 줄 알았는데 생김새가 심상치 않다 생각했더니 불꽃(촛불)맨드라미였던 것!
처음엔 얘가 맨드라미라길래 설마~ 했는데 정말 맨드라미였음.
This is a celosia a.k.a. cockcomb.
I first thought this flower was a four'o clock but the flower looked different from it.
And it turned out to be a celosia! How lovely.
이 꽃들은 알리섬이라고 작은 흰 꽃이다. 내가 이 화분에 알리섬이랑 파슬리 씨앗을 마구 섞어놔서 처음엔 구분이 안가더니,
이 사진 맨 오른쪽에 보면 파슬리가 파슬파슬 잎을 자랑하고 있음 ㅋㅋ
파슬리 발아시키는 거 꽤나 어려운 것 같다. 시간도 엄청 오래 걸리고.
파슬리는 모종으로 구입하는 걸 추천함.
These tiny white flowers are Alyssum.
I spread alyssum and parsley seeds in the same pot.
I couldn't tell which one was which.
Now you can tell! There is a parsley on the right side in the pic.
Since it takes super long for parsley to sprout, I just recommend buy parsley seedlings;
이건 아보카도 씨앗인데, 발아시켜보려고 생수통을 잘라서 화분으로 만들어주었다.
시엄마가 아보카도 발아시켜달라고 부탁하셔서 시도해본건데
보통 씨앗이 벌어지기까지 3주나 소요된다고 하니 두고봐야할 것 같다.
아보카도 씨앗 발아시키는 법은 겉껍질을 벗겨주어야 한다고 한다.
뾰족한 부분에서 뿌리가 나오니, 뾰족한 부분을 물아래로 담궈준다.
This is an avocado seed. (Huge)
I cut a water bottle into 2 pieces to put the seed in.
My mother in law asked me to germinate an avocado so I'm trying it.
It usually takes 3 weeks to germinate it. I need to see if this will work.
You need to peel its outside skin.
There is a pointy part and that is where roots come out of.
So you need to put the pointy part down in the water.
이건 수분 자동조절 화분에 심었던 안개꽃인데 물이 가득차있는데도 시들어있어서 물을 좀 더 뿌려주었다.
여기도 내가 막 이것저것 심어놔서 뭐가 뭔지 막 헷갈린다.
This is a self controlling water pot and it was filled with water on the bottom.
But the baby breathes were still a little bit dry. So I watered them more.
I'm so confused what kind of the rest of the sprouts are;
이거 왠지 유칼립투스 베이비블루 같다! 아직은 구분이 좀 어렵지만, 내가 여기에 뿌린 적이 있거든-_-;
I think this one is an eucalyptus (baby blue).
I'm not sure that it is, but I did spread the seeds in this pot;
처음에 로즈마리인건가?! 드디어 내가 로즈마리 발아시킨건가!? 설레발 떨었는데 아닌 것 같다..
그냥 잡초인가..일단은 두고 보는 걸로.
I thought the sprout would be rosemary! But it looks different than rosemary.
Is it just a random green? I need to see more.

카모마일은 꽃봉우리가 맺혔다. 키도 갑자기 훌쩍 커짐.
꽃이 피면 얼마나 예쁠까. 기대감이 점점 커진다.
My chamomile is about to bloom.
It got taller as well.
I'm looking forward to the flowers.
파도 하루가 다르게 쑥쑥 자라고 있다.
The green onions are growing fast.
당근은 생장속도가 너무 더디다. 더운 날씨랑 잘 안맞는 걸수도 있다.
Mini carrots are growing so slow. Maybe they don't suit southern america weather.
씨앗을 무지 많이 뿌렸는데 남은 애들은 별로 없다.
There are not many left even after I planted so many seeds.

스타티스 씨앗 20개 뿌린 거 맞나.
겨우 2개만 남고 싸그리 다 죽음. 왜 그렇지 ㅠ?
Did I really planted 20 statice seeds?! lol.

바질은 잎 따서 요리하면 할수록 무서울정도로 빨리 자람;
It grows faster after you pick some leaves;
대추토마토는 더울 때 잘 자란다고 하는데 그래서인지 엄청 빨리 커진다.
Roma tomatoes grow well in hot weather and they are!
이번 포스팅의 주인공인 목화.
목화씨 구하는 곳은 목화 꽃다발이 있다면 그 솜안에 씨앗이 있다.
그 씨앗에 붙은 솜을 잘 제거해주고, 물에 불려 발아시켜주면 된다.
나는 아마존에서 목화씨앗을 구입했는데 100% 발아했다.
여름식물인 목화는 햇빛이 강하고 따뜻한 여기 날씨에 딱인지 정말 잘 자란다.
이번 겨울 목화솜으로 리스만들기 도전!!
The main plant in this post is cotton!
You can get cotton seeds right away if you have a cotton bouquet at home.
You need to remove the cotton around the seeds and put them in wet cotton/tissue to germinate.
I bought the seeds on Amazon and all of them germinated.
This is a summer plant and they are growing so fast now.
I'm gonna try making a Christmas wreath with these cotton!
한눈에 봐도 미국상추 VS 한국상추 색깔이 아주 다르다.
잎사귀를 따도 따도 줄지가 않아~
American lettuce color is different from Korean ones.
They are growing too fast to catch up.
이건 다른 화분에 있는 카모마일이다. 생긴게 꼭 산호같단말야.
Baby chamomile looks similar to coral.
이건 카모마일 화분에 있는 무!
데이큰이라고, 미국에서 파는 아시안 종류 무인데 처음엔 단무지 무침 해먹는다고 심었던 애들이다.
얼마 전에 무들 중 하나에 꽃대가 생기는 바람에 뽑아봤는데 뿌리가 아주 그냥 열무보다 작음 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
This is a daikon in the same pot as the baby chamomile.
I expected them to become so big.
I had to pull one of them because it was getting ready to bloom.
이게 꽃대가 맺혀 더이상 크기성장하지 않을거라는 생각에 뽑았던 무. 맛은 없더라.
Look at how small it is! Once radish gets ready to bloom then they stop getting bigger.
마지막으로 아삭이 고추 꽃.
아삭이 고추 키우는 법은 방아다리 사이 고추꽃이 열리면 따주고, 첫번째 열린 고추는 너무 커지기 전에 수확해서 나머지 고추들에게 영양분이 골고루 갈 수 있도록 해줘야 한다고 한다.
또 꽃이 피면 면봉이나 젓가락으로 수술과 암술을 슬슬 쓸어주면 수정이 된다.
This is a pepper flower.
Here is how to grow peppers.
You remove the very first flower between the first Y shaped branches.
You pick the first pepper before it grows too big.
So nutrition goes to the rest peppers.
Once a flower blooms, you rub the pistil and stamen with a Q-tip or chopstick to pollinate.
