Vegetable Garden Log, April
I haven't been able to take short trips or go to good restaurants for a while due to the outbreak. So I am posting only about gardening that I can still do to keep myself busy.
(잠깐의 한탄) 코로나 때문에 외출을 자제하고 있는 중이다. (집-회사-집-회사-식료품점 루틴) 그래서 여행 포스팅이나 맛집 포스팅이 뜸한 반면, 집 마당에서 할 수 있는 가드닝 포스팅을 많이 올리고 있는 중이다.

My Raised Bed
In my raised bed, I have planted Jalapeno, Georgia sweet onion, and mini carrot seedlings. Also, I spread Korean vegetable seeds such as Korean radish, zucchini, lettuce and green onions. So far only Korean radish and zucchini's seeds have sprouted.
내 텃밭을 먼저 살펴보면 모종으로는 할라피뇨, 조지아 단 양파, 미니 당근을 심었다. 씨앗부터 발아한 건 한국산 무, 그리고 애호박 두가지다. 한국 상추씨앗과 고추씨앗이 아직 발아를 못한 거 같아서 지난 주말 다시 한번 뿌려줬는데 이번에도 잘 안되면 씨앗이 오래됐거나 날이 안맞는걸로...
Skylar's Raised Bed
This bed is owned by Skylar (but watered by me...) He planted Broccoli, cucumber and strawberry seedlings. I planted some of my onion seedlings. (The seedlings were too many!) Skylar also spread cucumber seeds. He didn't consider any spacing. He believes in Natural selection. He think stronger ones will take over.
남편 텃밭에는 브로콜리, 오이, 양파, 딸기 모종과 함께 오이 씨앗과 토마토 씨앗이 흩뿌려져있다. 토마토는 아직인데 오이씨앗은 다글다글 많이 올라오고 있다. 스카일러는 철저한 자연선택 주의자로 씨앗을 많이 뿌려도 개중 튼튼한 놈만 살아남을거라나...ㅎ (다 죽이는 건 아니구?)
One day this cucumber leaves looked bleeched. We were not sure why? But I assumed it was because it was planted too early. We should buy a Trellis for this when it gets bigger.
오이 잎사귀가 하얗게 탈색되었다가 다시 돌아오는 중인데 행색이 영..ㅡ 그리 건강해보이진 않는다. 여기서 더 커지면 덩쿨용 철사 지지대를 사줘야 할 듯.
This is a strowberry flower in his garden bed. Skylar threw away one strawberry that looks the most deform lol.
딸기에 꽃 한송이가 폈다. 딸기꽃은 처음 보는데 귀엽다! 열매도 달렸는데 그 중 가장 큰 놈은 정말 우스꽝스럽게 생겼는데 스카일러가 버림.
Earthworm Castings Fertilizer and building mounds
친환경 거름, 지렁이분변토 뿌리고 밭고랑 파기
I bought a 30 Lb earthworm casting from Amazon. Because I believe that makes soil richer and healthier. To mix the fertilizer with my soil, I decided to reorganize my whole garden bed.
아마존에서 15kg 지렁이분변토를 구입했다. (개인적으로 지렁이분변토 신봉자임) 농작물이 훨씬 튼튼하게 자라는 느낌적인 느낌이거든. 기존 흙과 잘 섞기 위해서 텃밭 자체를 들어 엎었다. 그리고 올해 산 호미로 고랑을 파준다. 미국, 한국채소를 일렬로 예쁘게 배열한다. :)
I didn't know what to do to the onion bunch in this photo. I didn't want to throw away just because there was not much room in my bed. So I kept them in a group like that. And now I reorganize the bed, I thought I should take care of them.
저 맨 위에 엄청 큰 양파(파처럼 보이는)뭉치는, 양파 모종 양이 너무 많아서 그냥 뭉치로 심은 건데 드디어! 완벽하게 처리를 했다. (포스팅 마지막 부분에 적음)
Why didn't I think of this idea earlier? I could eat little onions! I only thought whether to keep them in my bed or throw them away. I cleaned the onions so well. They looked sooo fresh!
왜 먹을 생각을 못했지? 버리거나 어딘가에 심거나만 생각했던 나... ㅋㅋ 흙을 털고 새끼 양파들을 물로 깨끗이 씻어줬더니 정말로 싱싱해보인다.
I hadn't tried baby onions before. I was curious if that would taste just like green onions. Skylar made a burger for me. I am not relly into buns so I only got one pattie lol This is my BURGER!. I was surprised by how fresh my onions were. It was really different from onions from grocery stores. The green part was a bit tougher than normal green onions' But it was still fine. I ended up eating 2/3 of the harvest lol.
과연 새끼 양파의 맛은 일반 파와 비슷할 것인가 사뭇 궁금했다. 스카일러가 저녁으로 햄버거를 만들어줬는데, 나는 햄버거 번 별로 안좋아해서...;; 패티만 먹었다 ㅋㅋ 양파 맛은 정말 정말 싱싱해서 깜짝 놀랐다. 마트에서 파는 것과는 너무 다름! 이래서 텃밭을 만드는 건가 싶었다. 저 파 줄기 부분은 일반 파의 그것보단 조금 더 질기지만 아직까지는 괜찮은 맛이어서 순식간에 수확물 2/3를 먹어버림;
