바이오메트릭스를 하고 세 달을 조금 넘어가는 시점에 이민국에서 레터가 왔다. 임시영주권 → 영구영주권 진행이 완료됐다는 것이다. 사실 바이오메트릭스 예약이 2월로 잡혀있었는데 버밍햄 이민국으로 향하는 도중 타이어가 펑크가 나서 일정을 미룰 수 밖에 없었다. 그래서 한달 뒤인 3월 초로 새로 잡힌 바이오메트릭스를 하러 갔고, 마지막 절차인 인터뷰를 남겨둔 상태였는데 이 때 코로나가 터져서 이민국 업무가 올스탑이 됐다. 감감무소식인채로 3개월을 지나 받은 레터에는 인터뷰 없이 영구영주권이 승인이 났다는 정말 좋은 소식이 있었다! 이게 코로나 때문에 밀린 이민국 업무 때문에 인터뷰를 안하게 된건지, 아니면 우리가 제출한 서류 자료가 충분해서인지 아니면 둘 다 인지 알 수 없지만 땡잡은 느낌이었다. 레터에는 60일 이내로 영구영주권 실물 카드가 도착할 예정이라고 했는데, 바로 그 다음날 실물카드를 수령했다. ㅋㅋ 뭐지 이 미국이민국 답지않은 스피드?! 아무튼 임시영주권과는 달리 영구영주권은 10년이 지속되기 때문에 다음 갱신 날짜는 무려 2030년이다!! ㅋㅋㅋ 이 모든 절차를 변호사없이 나와 남편 둘이서 무사히 해냈다는게 뿌듯하고 자랑스럽다 :) 글로벌 팬데믹 상황인 지금 어쩌면 엄청 오래걸렸을 수도 있는 이민 절차가 의외로 쉽고 빠르게 끝났다는 것에 정말 감사하다.
I received a letter from the immigration. That was about 3 months after I did biometrics. In that letter, it said they decided to remove conditions from my permenant residency. My original biometrics appointment was in early February. We had a flat tire on the way to the immigration in Birmingham. We rescheduled for my Biometrics and our new appoitment was in March. There was only one step, interview, left to get my greencard. And immigration shut down due to Covid-19 right after I got my biometrics done. We didn't know how long it would take to hear from them. But fortunately, things worked out perfectly for us. The letter I received from immigration said I should get an actual card within 60 days, and it got delievered the next day lol. So.. yes! I got my 10 years long greencard without an interview. I am so happy that we went through all the paperwork without a lawyer and even though I was concered about this pandemic situation but it wasn't an issue to us. I am so lucky and thankful.
