4월 17일 April 17th

씨앗 심은지 13일차 Day 13

상추 본잎들의 크기가 커지고 있다.

아주 미미한 변화이지만 상추를 처음 키워보는 나에게는 큰 변화다.

Their true leaves were getting bigger.

It was a subtle difference but it meant a lot to me.

날씨가 점점 더워져 흡사 초여름날씨가 되니 수선화 꽃이 시들시들해졌다.

봄꽃이라 그런가보다.

Since the temperature was getting higher and higher like summer,

Their petals faded away.

I guess that's because they bloom only in spring.

수선화 뿌리를 햇빛이 잘 안드는 곳에 보관하면 내년에도 꽃을 볼 수 있다던데,

내년에는 아마 이사를 가 있을 예정이라 수선화를 뽑아내기로 했다 T.T

차마 내가 뽑아내기 너무 미안해서 남편에게 부탁했다.

You keep their bulbs away from the sun then you can see daffodils again next year.

But we will have moved out by next year so we just decided to pull them out.

I felt too bad for the daffodils. I had to ask my husband to do it for me.

수선화들을 뽑아내고 ㅠㅠ 새롭게 단장한 나만의 작은 텃밭. 

곡괭이랑 작은 삽은 달러스토에서 1달러씩 주고 샀다.

하늘 매발톱꽃도 꽃이 지고 있다.

I reorganized my little patio garden.

I bought these garden tools - rake and trowel- at the Dollar store for only one dollar each.

My aquilegia was falling off too.

4월 19일 April 19th 

수선화가 있던 화분 흙을 다시 골고루 섞어주었다.

이때 화분 아래에서 딱정벌레 3마리를 발견하고 소스라치게 놀랐다.

남편이 이런 벌레에 놀라면 좋은 농사꾼이 아니라고 했다. '^'

나는 초보농부인걸!!!

I raked the soil where the daffodils were planted.

I found three beetles beneath the soil, it freaked me out.

My husband said that I am not a good farmer if I just get freaked out by insects.

But I am a beginner !

흙에 영양분이 부족할까 싶어서 비료가 섞여있는 흙은 조금 섞어주었다.

새싹 몇개를 옮겨주기로 했다.

I added some new soil with fertilizer in the planter and transplanted some sprouts.

작은 잎을 가진 새싹이어도 뿌리는 꽤나 깊다.

Even though it is a small sprout it has long roots.

버베나 꽃 색깔이 묽어졌다.

내가 물을 너무 많이 준거인지, 아니면 시든 건지 모르겠지만

버베나는 꽃대만 적절하게 잘라주면 계속 꽃을 볼 수 있다고 한다.

My verbena flowers looked watery.

I wonder if I watered it too much or if it was just dying.

You can see their flowers all year if you tram it properly.

특단의 조치.

버베나 꽃대 뽑아내기 *_*;

너무 잔인한거 아니냐; (차라리 잘라주라,,.)

I tried pulling the flowers;

kind of cruel. I know...

아래 쪽에 붉게 변한 잎사귀가 있다.

버베나야 아프니 ㅠㅠ

Verbena with no flowers.

There is a leaf that turned to red below.

과감한 수술 감행

이상하게 변색된 잎사귀 잘라냈다.

I did this operation by trimming the weird one.

그리고 꽃대도 잘라주었다.

이만큼 자르는게 맞는지는 모르겠다.

버베나가 한국에서 유명한 화초도 아니고 구글링을 해도 잘 나오지 않아서 그냥 이정도로 잘라보았다.

I cut this off too.

I wasn't sure if I did this in the right way.

I couldn't find any where how much you should cut it.

이발이 완료된 버베나.

자른 곳에 꽃대가 다시 올라올 거라고 믿는다.

I believe their stems will emerge soon.

이 물뿌리개도 달러스토어에서 산건데 싸고 유용하다.

스프레이 강도도 조절할 수 있다.

내가 물주고 있었는데 자기도 하고 싶다며... 

농부놀이를 하고 있는 남편이다.

We got this sprayer at the Dollar store too. It was cheap and very useful.

You can even adjust how misty it is.

My husband wanted to copy my play farming.

4월 20일 April 20th

새싹들이 눈에 띄게 커졌다.

이제는 샐러드 새싹채소 모습이 언뜻언뜻 보일정도로 자랐다.

The sprouts had grown visibly.

They looked like salad-mix greens sold from markets.

떡잎은 똑같아 보이는데 본잎이 다른 새싹들.

Mesclun이라고 여러가지 샐러드채소가 섞여있는 씨앗이었는데, 

처음 발아했을 때 떡잎이 다 똑같아서 똑같은 애들만 발아된 줄 알았다.

Their cotyledons looked just the same before.

I thought only one kind of mesclun seeds grew up.

Now I can tell them by their true leaves.

크기를 가늠하기 위해 내 손가락과 비교해봤다.

I tried comparing the sprout to my finger.

파도 정말 많이 자라서 조금만 더 지나면 잘라서 먹어야 할 것 같다.

앞에 보이는 새싹은 한국 상추들이 발아한 애들이다.

근데 맨 아래 2개는 새싹 모양이 달라서 무슨 새싹인지 모르겠다.

I think we need to cut some of the green onions and eat them soon.

The sprouts in front of the green onions are korean lettuce.

I am not sure what kind of sprouts the two in the very front are.

4월 21일 April 21st.

드디어 미동도 않던 꽈리고추 씨앗이 발아하기 시작했다.

색깔이 한국상추 새싹에 비해 조금 더 연한 걸 보면 이건 분명 고추 새싹이다. (그렇게 믿고 싶다.)

씨앗을 뿌린지 9일차 만에 발견한 새싹들이다.

안그래도 발아가 조금 더딘 거 같아 네이버에 검색해보니,

고추씨앗은 발아하는 데에 조금 더 걸리는 게 일반적인 것 같았다.

My korean pepper seeds just sprouted.

They must be pepper because they have a different color from the lettuce.

I searched for sprouting korean peppers on Naver since nothing happened for 9 days after I planted the seeds.

It seemed like it usually takes long for pepper seeds to sprout.
