Gardening 6 :: 텃밭일기 6 미국 텃밭채소 기르기

마지막으로 텃밭일기 포스팅 올린 게 거의 한 달이 다 되어 간다.

점점 더 게으러지는 나의 모습을 보면서 -_-; 매일매일 기록은 못해도 대강의 채소 근황들은 올려보려고 한다.

 It had been a month since I last posted about gardening.

I can't post day by day but I thought I shouldn't postpone posting any longer.

깻잎 모종들이 많이 자라서 이제는 간격을 좀 띄워줘야할 것 같았다.

그래서 달러스토어 가서 화분 두어개를 더 사다가 분산시켜 주었다.

 The Korean perilla seedlings grew a lot.

They needed more area for each of them.

So I went to the Dollar store and got two more pots.

상추가 많이 자라서 삼겹살 구어다가 쌈 싸먹었다. ㅎㅎ

처음 상추 씨앗 산 날 남편이 상추 발아만 시켜도 엄청 대단한 일이라고 그러더니

이제는 잘 자란 상추에 삼겹살 싸먹고 있잖아 ㅡ_ㅡ+

 We grilled porkbelly and wrapped it with the lettuce.

On the first day I bought lettuce seeds, my husband said "It's gonna be great if you succeed to germinate them."

Well? Now he is eating them!

이 화분은 약간 베이비채소 화분이 되었는데 처음에는 밀집된 상추들에게 미안함을 느끼면서도 -_-;

그래도 뿌리 뽑히는 거보다 살려주는게 어디야!!! 라고 또 마음 먹고....ㅋㅋㅋㅋ;

 This planter became for baby greens. 

I first felt sorry for them since it was too dense.

On second thought, it's better to stay alive than getting thinned out. -_-;

좀 자란애들 따다가 샐러드 보울에 담아서 샐러드로 먹어주고

 Sometimes I picked the baby greens and made salad.

(the yellow pepper was given by my mother in law :D)

다음 날 텃밭 나가서 확인해보니 웬 버섯이 갑자기 생겼나? 진짜 개소름 돋았다.

포자가 곤충인지 새인지 몸에 붙어 이 화분이 퍼뜨린 것 같았다.

너무너무 소름 돋았지만 더 퍼지기 전에 저 상추들 ㅠㅠ이랑 흙까지 모두 버려버렸다.

 The next day I saw these disgusting looking mushrooms.

I think some bugs or animals moved the spores.

I had to throw away the entire lettuce and soil...

지난 대선 투표를 위해 애틀랜타에 갔을 때 H mart에 들러 한국 깻잎 모종들이 어느새 이렇게 많이 자라나있다.

미국 남부 날씨가 워낙 화창한 덕분인 듯하다.

 I bought the korean sesame seedlings at H mart on the election day in Atalanta.

Now they are big and it's probably because of sunny weather in Southern America.

지금 내 텃밭에 있는 채소들을 나열하자면,

한국산 씨앗들 : 한국 깻잎, 한국 상추, 한국 꽈리고추, 한국 아삭이고추

미국산 씨앗들 : 상추, 샐러드 채소들, 당근, 레몬밤, 아시안 무, 양파, 바질이 되겠다.

 So there are two kinds of plants in my garden.

- Korean seeds : sesames , lettuces , peppers

- American seeds : lettuces, salad greens, carrots, lemon balm, daikons, onions and basil.

양파들이 꽤나 많이 자라서 언뜻보면 실파처럼 보이기도 한다.

양파와 카모마일은 같이 심으면 좋다는 말을 들어서 양파 사이에 카모마일 씨앗을 씸었었다.

근데 이주가 지나도 새싹이 올라오지 않아서 실내에서 발아를 시킨 뒤 심었더니 새싹이 꼬물꼬물 올라오고 있는 중이다.

 The onion can look like green onions.

I heard that it's good to plant onions and chamomiles together.

So I planted chamomiles between the onions and none of them germinated in 2 weeks.

I germinated them indoors for the second attempt, transplanted them and finally they are growing.

이거는 미니당근 새싹들인데 잎사귀가 참 귀엽게 생겼다.

씨앗 한 24개 뿌린 거 같은데 4개만 발아됐다. ㅠ_ㅠ

날씨가 너무 더워서 그런가?

2차로 좀 더 씨앗을 심어보았다.

 These are finger carrots and their leaves look so cute.

I think I planted about 24 seeds but only 4 sprouted -_-.

I don't know why. maybe it's too hot?

I tried planting more seeds again.

앞에 큰 잎사귀 두개는 바질이고 오른쪽 작은애는 한국 상추이다.

그리고 위에 작은 새싹들 두어개는 파슬리인지 흰색 꽃(이름 기억안남)인지 기억이 안난다.

 The two big ones in this pot are basil. and the right one is korean lettuce.

There are small sprouts above them, I don't know what they are. Maybe parsley or some white flowers.

시엄마가 한달 전 쯤 파슬리 씨앗 사줬는데 압축토 발아에 실패해서 

이 화분에 파슬리 다시 뿌리고 또 잡다한 거 다 심어놔서 -_-; 구분이 안된다.

 My mother in law bought me parsley seeds a month ago.

I failed to germinate them in the coconut compressed soil.

열무는 잎이 너무 무성히 자라나서 잘라주었다.

그럼 줄기로 갈 영양분이 뿌리로 더 가지 않을까라는 믿음에..?

 Wow. The asian daikon(radish) grew so fast!

I cut their leaves so maybe more nutrients will be used for their roots. :D

열무 잎 따다가 열무김치 해먹었다.

마늘, 고춧가루, 까나리액젓, 새우젓 대충 덯고 먹어봤는데 음~ 고향의 냄새 ㅎ

미국에서는 비닐 장갑을 구할 수가 없어서 손으로 양념을 차마 바르지 못하고 실온에 하루 묵혀놓았다.

 I made kimchi with the daikons leaves.

I made it with korean sauces that I bought at Hmart. (smells a lot like home...lol.)

I can't get plastic gloves in America so I couldn't rub the sauce and I just decided to put it out at room temperature.

그 결과 하루 지난 열무잎들이 숨이 죽고 양념이 베어있는 모습이다.

오랜만에 열무잎김치 먹으니까 맛있었다. 다만 조금 속이 쓰렸다 -_-;

 Next day the leaves look more fermented.

I liked the kimchi except it was kindof too hot.

깻잎 따다가 고기 없지만 쌈장이랑 흰쌀밥에 먹으니 꿀맛이었다.

깻잎을 따고 이국적인 깻잎향이 새들의 후각을 자극했던걸까?

 I picked some sesame leaves and wrapped with rice and ssamjang *Korean dipping sauce*

I don't know..maybe when I cut the leaves, the exotic smell attracted birds?

다음 날 처참한 광경이 펼쳐졌다. ㅡㅡ

 Something bad happened next day.

고난의 텃밭....

이런 일이 내 텃밭에도 일어날 줄이야?

하루 아침사이 꺾여 있는 고추 모종들..

고추 옆에 새똥이 있는 거로 보아 범인이 누구인지 짐작이 간다.

 I didn't imagine that something like this would happen to me too!

 The peppers were broken.

I could tell who did this judging by the poo next to the pepper.

심지어 깻잎까지 의도적으로 부러뜨려놓았다.

하루가 다르게 점점 내 텃밭이 망가지는 걸 보고있자니 속이 너무 쓰렸다.

 They even broke my sesame seedlings too!

I was very upset looking at my ruined garden.

그리하여 특단의 조치를 취하게 되는데

알루미늄 호일로 허수아비를 만드는 거다.

새들이 바람에 흩날리는 호일에 반사된 햇빛을 보고 두려움을 느낀다는 것!

시부모님이 조언해주셔서 바로 실행에 돌입했다.

바람개비도 만들어봤는데 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 안돌아가네.. 쩝.

 So I had to do something about this.

My mother and dad in law recommend that I make small scare crows!

Birds are scared of the reflection of sunlight on foil.

I tried making a pinwheel and it didn't spin -_-.

가장 피해가 막심한 화분 앞에는 동물퇴치기계를 놓았는데,

동물별로 주파수를 설정하고 그 범위를 조절하면 동물이 다가갔을때 인간이 들을 수 없는 고음의 소리를 낸다.

특히나 윗면에는 태양열 충전기가 있어서 충전할 필요도 없다.

 I put this animal repellent just next to the most destroyed planter.

You can adjust the frequency for different animals 

and when they walk in the area it makes high pitch noises that humans can't hear.

You don't have to charge it because their's a solar panel on top.

호일들이 흩날리면서 허수아비 역할을 해주고 있다.

밤에도 역할을 잘 해야할텐데 걱정이다.

 The sloppy scare crows are flapping.

I am worried if my garden will be safe at nights too.
