텃밭일기7 미국 일상 텃밭 | 상추 키우기, 깻잎 수확, 고추 모종 키우기, 무 심기, 당근 씨앗

 

 

 

 

씨앗을 심다보니 어느덧 이렇게 많아진 나의 텃밭 채소들.

내가 기르는 채소를 나열해보자면 레몬밤, 한국상추, 미국상추, 깻잎, 아삭이고추, 꽈리고추, 당근, 양파, 바질, 무, 파가 있고

원예용으로는 안개꽃, 카네이션, 카모마일, 알리섬, 스타티스, 목화를 기르고 있다.

I planted more and more seeds and by the time I realized it I had a lot of pots.

To review; I have lemon balm, korean&american lettuce, perilla leaves, A-Sak-ee peppers, Ggua-ri peppers, carrots, onions, basil, daikons and green onions.

I have baby-breathe, carnations, camomiles, alyssums, statice and cottons.

 

 

 

한국 무는 아니고 데이큰이라고 아시안 무 같은 걸 심었다.

너무 쑥쑥 자라서 자주 잎사귀들을 잘라주는데도 비 몇번 온 후에는 또 무럭무럭 자라나 있다.

These are daikons. Not exact korean radishes, but still similar to them.

They grow so fast and I cut the leaves often, but after some rainy days they are big again.

 

 

 

농업기술 중 혼작이라는 게 있는데 같이 심으면 좋은 식물 궁합이 있다고 한다.

무와 당근, 무와 고추는 함께 심으면 좋다는 글을 보고 심어봤다.

For mix-cropping, there are some good plants to plant together.

Carrots and daikons, Daikons and peppers are good and I tried planting them in the same pots.

 

 

 

또 무와 함께 기르기 좋은 식물로 캐모마일이 있는데, 발아하기도 워낙 까다로운 데다가 성장도 굉장히 더딘 편이다.

Also camomile is good with daikons too.

They are so tricky to germinate and growing slowly.

 

 

 

카네이션 씨앗을 심기도 했는데, 

이거는 카네이션 새싹들. 자라나면 생화로 시부모님께도 드릴 예정이다.

무슨 색 카네이션일지 무척 궁금하다.

I bought some carnations seeds and they are germinated now.

I'm gonna give some of them to my mother in law later.

I wonder what color they will turn out to be :)

 

 

 

이거는 안개꽃 새싹이다. 안개꽃 기르기는 전에 같으면 한번도 생각해보지 못할 발상인데, 

미국 남부 시골에 살다보니 뭐든 자급자족하게 되는 버릇이 생겼다.

꽃다발에 안개꽃이 없으면 아쉬우니깐, 안개꽃 키우기도 시작했다.

발아도 쉬운데다가 빨리 자란다.

사람들이 보통 안개꽃을 키워본단 생각은 못하지만, 의외로 초보자용 식물인 것 같다.

These are baby breathe. I hadn't thought about planting them before

but since I am not living in a big city, I gained a new habit of trying to make everything by myself.

Baby breath is the most popular filler! 

They are so easy to grow and grow gast.

I guess they are just not very well known as a beginner's plant.

 

 

 

안개꽃 화분에 함께 심었던 데이지도 발아 중이다. 

아직 한개밖에 나오지 않았지만 :)

The daisy I planted with the baby breathes is growing too. Only one has germinated so far though.

 

 

 

바질도 쑥쑥 자라고 있다. 

바질 키우기는 쉽기도 하고 활용도도 높아서 많은 사람들이 한번쯤 도전해보는 식물인 것 같다.

잎사귀를 슬슬 문지르면 향이 너무 좋다.

스파게티에 잎사귀 넣어서 먹어봐야지 :P

Basil is growing fine too.

They are useful and easy, so many people love to plant them.

If you rub the leaf the smell is so good.

I wanna make spaghetti with the leaves soon. 

 

 

 

상추 키우기도 다시 돌입! 

일단 이미 큰 상추들을 내가 너무 많이 잎사귀를 따먹어서 그 후예들을 함께 기르고 있다 -_-a

I'm planting another group of lettuce!

I have already eaten too many leaves of other lettuce, so it's like growing next generation lol.

 

 

 

아마존에서 구입한 한국상추 씨앗들이 무럭무럭 자라났다.

남편이 맛있다고 제일 좋아하는 텃밭식물.

I got the korean lettuce seeds on Amazon.

My husband's favorite crop :)

 

 

 

이거는 미국 상추인데 부들부들하고 잎이 연해서 맛이 좋다.

상추 기르기는 참 쉽기도 하고 관리도 편하다.

상추 물주기는 하루에 한 번씩 오전 9시에서 10시 전후로 준다.

These are american lettuce and they are so soft and tasty.

It's so easy to grow and manage them.

I water them once a day at 9 or 10 in the morning.

 

 

 

 

 

카모마일 발아 시키려면 그냥 직파로는 성공률이 낮은 것 같았다.

집안에서 씨앗을 물에 불린 후 땅에 옮겨 심어도 그 중 20% 정도만 발아되는 것 같다.

양파와 같이 심기 좋은 식물로 카모마일이 있길래 같이 심어줬다.

It was so hard to germinate chamomiles by planting the seeds right into the soil.

I had to germinate them indoors first and planted after that. 

Still only 20% of them sprouted.

I heard it's good to have chamomiles with onions so I planted it with the onions!

 

 

 

양파 씨앗은 파 씨앗이랑 거의 똑같다. 아무래도 같은 종(?)이니 더 그렇겠지.

쑥대머리가 되어 파줄기를 흩날리고 있는 양파들.

양파는 마트양파 심으면 안되고 'ㅅ' 양파 씨앗 심기!

Onions seeds are just same as green onions seeds. It's because they are the same species.

It looks like they have crazy hairs though.

 

 

 

한국 꽈리고추 키우기 쉽지 않았다.

고추 씨앗 발아는 대체적으로 2주가 걸리고 무럭무럭 자랐으나,

새들이 둥지를 짓는 시기였는지 그렇게 내 고추 줄기들을 부러뜨려 놓았다.

그래서 여러갈래로 자라나고 있는 중이다 ㅜ_ㅜ 살아줘서 고마워..

Korean pepper -Gguari- It was not easy to keep them alive.

They germinated well and it took 2 weeks.

Maybe that was when birds were making nests and collecting plants for them.

They almost destroyed my peppers. I'm glad they are still alive -_-

당근 씨앗도 심었는데, 점점 당근 이파리 모양새를 갖춰가고 있다.

이건 미니당근인데 발아율이 정말 낮은 것 같다. 

심은 건 한 30개 정도 심었는데 1/3만 발아성공했다.

Look at the leaves! :)

They are mini carrots and their germination rate is so low. T_T

I planted 30 seeds only 1/3 are growing.

 

 

 

당근도 마찬가지로 꼭 새들이 저 이파리를 먹어버린다 ㅡㅡa

Birds eat these leaves too ㅡ.ㅡ

 

 

 

 

 

 

이거는 스타티스 새싹들.

드라이 플라워에 많이 쓰이는 종인데 내가 산 스타티스는 선셋플라워라고 코랄계열 색상 꽃이 핀다.

새싹부터가 예사롭지 않은게, 녹색도 있고 갖가지 색 새싹이 막 올라온다.

These are statice that is used for dry flowers.

The statice I bought is sunset-coral-flowers.

Some of the sprouts aren't even green! 

 

 

 

첨에 보고 버섯인 줄 알고; 깜짝 놀랬다.

알고보니 스타티스 씨앗이 발아한 갈색 새싹이었던 것.

When I first found it, I thought this was a mushroom -_-.

It's a statice brown sprout!

 

 

 

대추 토마토 기르기도 진행 중 :)

방울토마토를 엄청 좋아하는 건 아니지만, 일단 기르고 나면 쉽게 열매를 따먹을 수 있다는 게 극 장점!

총 4개 심었는데 토마토 발아율은 100%로 훌륭하다 bb

I have 4 italian roma tomatoes too! (small oval-shaped cherry tomatoes)

I don't like tomatoes very much but they are so convenient to harvest.

100% germinated.

 

 

 

처음엔 파슬리 새싹인 줄 오해했던 알리섬 새싹들. 미친 발아율-_-a

작은 흰색 꽃을 좋아하는 터라 알리섬이란 꽃을 잘 알지 못했지만 씨앗봉투에 있는 그림 보고 그냥 심었던 씨앗들이다;

I mistook them for parsley. They are allysum, that small white flowers.

 

 

 

맨 왼쪽과 오른쪽에 있는 건 조지아 둘루스 h마트에서 샀던 아삭이고추 모종들이 성장한 모습이고,

가운데 2개는 꽈리고추들이다.

아삭이 고추 모종은 총 4개를 구입했었는데 오직 1개만 새의 습격을 받지 않아 훌륭하게 잘 자라고 있다.

Peppers on the ends are A-sak-ee and the middle ones are Ggua-ri.

I got 4 A-sak-ee seedlings and only one wasn't attacked by birds.

 

 

 

얼마 전 방아다리에 꽃이 2개나 피었는데, 방아다리 꽃은 따줘야 고추 수확률이 높아진다 하여

어쩔 수 없이 제거해줬고 이제 다른 고추꽃들이 피고 있는 중이다.

There were two pepper flowers between the first Y shaped branches.

I picked them because without them rest of peppers will grow better and I can harvest more.

Now I have 2 new flowers:)

 

 

 

한인마트에서 같이 구입한 깻잎모종은 한번 자라나기 시작하더니 쑥쑥 큰다.

아무리 먹어도 다음 날 다시 보면 또 잎이 자라나있다.

깻잎 키우기는 한번 쯤 해볼만 한 것 같다.

나같이 채소 좋아하는 사람들은 키워서 먹으면 농약 걱정도 없고 말이다. 

The perilla seedlings are growing crazy fast. 

Even though I eat them every day, they look to have not been eaten the next day -_-.

If you like sesame leaves, it's good to have them without worrying about pesticides!

 

 

 

시부모님이 파나마비치로 여행다녀 오셨는데 기념품으로 내 이름이 새겨진 드림캐쳐를 사다주셨다.

시아빠가 고리를 만들어주셨고, 여기에 걸어 새를 쫓는 허수아비용으로 사용하라고 하셨다.

내 정원에 놓기에 너무 아름다운 드림캐쳐이지만 확실히 효과가 있는지 요즘은 새들이 내 정원을 괴롭히지 않는 중이다. :D

My husband's parents went on a vacation to Panama city beach and they bought me this dream catcher with my name as a souvenir.

My father in law made the hanger for it and told me to use it to keep birds away.

This is too pretty to have in my outdoor garden but It sure is working. 

No birds have bothered my garden since :)
