스위스 여행 첫째날
체르마트 마테호른 & 브리스톨 호텔
Matterhorn & Hotel Bristol, Zermatt

체르마트는 스위스의 남부에 위치한 청정 산악마을이다. 1961년 이래로 휘발유 자동차 운행이 금지되었고, 전기자동차나 마차가 그 자리를 대신하고 있다. 체르마트는 특히나 스키 명소로 알려져있지만 마테호른을 볼 수 있다는 게 가장 큰 매력이다.
Zermatt is a small mountanious village is located in southern part of Switzerland. Since 1961, Zermatta has been car-free. There are only electric cars or carriages in the town. Zermatt is well-known for a perfect place for skiing, but the best part of the village is that you can see the Matterhorn of the Alps up close.
체르마트 기차역 앞에는 호텔 픽업을 요청할 수 있는 무료 공중전화 부스가 마련되어 있다. 알파벳 순으로 정리가 잘 되어있어 한눈에 파악하기가 쉬웠고 호텔 이름 옆에 있는 5자리 코드를 누르면 바로 연결이 된다. 브리스톨은 오전 8시부터 오후 5시까지 기차역에 픽업이 상시 대기 되어있는 듯 한데, 우리가 도착했을 때는 오후 5시가 넘은 시각이라 호텔 브리스톨에 연락해 픽업을 요청드렸다.
There was a free phone call booth right in the station. Hotel names were in alphabetical order so it was easy to find our hotel code at a glance. Hotel bristol's pick-up electric car seems to be ready at the station from 8 am to 5 pm. When we arrived at Zermatt, it was after five pm. So we called the hotel and asked us for pick-up.
체르마트에 도착했을 때 맞이한 상쾌한 공기가 정말 좋았다. 스카일러는 미국 남부 출신이라 그런지 연신 너무 춥다는 말을 했다. 호텔 전기차가 기차역에 도착하기 까지 대략 10여분 정도 기다리는 동안 기차역 주변 사진을 많이 찍어두었는데 이날 날씨가 정말 좋았다.
I really liked the fresh air. Skylar is from Alabama, he is volurable to the cold. He thought it was cold there. While we were waiting on the pick-up car, I took many pictures of around the station. The weather was so nice.
호텔 브리스톨의 전기차에 몸을 싣고 호텔로 향했다. 전기차인데 꽤나 과격하게 운전하는 것도 인상깊었다. 아무래도 미국 남부식 운전스타일에 익숙해진 모양이다.
We got in this little electric car and headed to the hotel. It was our first electric car ride and the drive was quite aggresive. I guess I got used to very careful Alabama style driving.
호텔 브리스톨 Hotel Bristol
하루 숙박할 곳으로 정한 곳은 체르마트 호텔 브리스톨. 조식 포함한 하루 숙박비로 225 스위스프랑을 지불하였고 스위스는 독특하게 숙박시 발생하는 도시세가 있기 때문에 세금 포함하여 총 231 프랑을 냈다.
We chose hotel Bristol to spend one night in Zermatt. We paid 225 CHF for one night including breakfast for 2 people. Switzerland collects city tax that occurs every night per person at a paid accomodation, so we spent 231 CHF ($231.92 USD) total.
브리스톨에는 두가지 전망 룸이 있는데 하나는 마운틴 룸, 다른 하나가 마테호른 뷰다. 처음에 '마운틴뷰'라는 말 때문에 헷갈릴 수 있는데 꼼꼼히 살펴보면 분명 마테호른 뷰라고 명시된 방이 따로 있다. 우리가 고른 건 더블룸으로 2개 더블침대가 붙어있는 구조였고 404호에 배정되었다. 복도 마지막 방인 스위트 룸을 제외하고는 가장 좋은 전망을 가진 방이 아닌가 싶다.
Hotel Bristol has two room types with different view. We chose a double room with Matterhorn view and were assigned room 404. I think our room had the second best view besides the suite room next to ours.
호텔 발코니에서 바라본 마테호른 뷰. 정말 잘 보인다! 체르마트가 한창 공사중이 아니었더라면 더 멋졌을 걸 하는 아쉬움도 있었지만.
The view from the balcony was amazing! It would have looked cooler if there was no construction in Zermatt.
오후 다섯시가 넘은 시각임에도 해가 중천에 떠있는 것 같이 밝았다. 마테호른을 선명하게 보는 건 생각만큼 쉽지 않다고 한다. 특히나 5월의 스위스는 비가 자주 오고 구름도 잘 끼기 때문에 높은 산봉우리인 마테호른을 이렇게 잘 볼 수 있었던 건 행운이라고 생각한다.
It was very bright for 5 P.M. People say it's not easy to see the Matterhorn clearly. Switzerland in May is often rainy and cloudy. We were lucky to see the high mountain peak that clearly.
호텔 브리스톨 뿐만 아니라 다른 호텔에서도 꼭 샤워부스 안에 수건 한장을 바닥에 깔아놓는다. 그거 참 독특하면서도 사소한 문화 차이점이라고 생각했다. 또 미국 알라바마와 비교해보자면 샤워헤드가 손잡이형으로 되어있다는 것이다. 한국에서도 항상 손잡이형 샤워기가 대세인데 이렇게 한국과 스위스 문화 공통점을 찾아보는 것도 여행의 묘미였다.
Not only this hotel but also the other hotel we stayed at later had a towel in the shower booth. I thought it was kindof strange and subtle cultural difference. Another interesting thing is that most Swiss hotels have a handheld shower head. That is similar to Korea. In Alabama, most people only use a shower head fixed to the wall. It was really fun for me to find things in common between Korean and Swiss culture and compare them to American culture during this travel.
스위스에 와서 마테호른 뷰를 감상하며 먹은 첫 끼는 다름아닌 김치사발면과 미국 땅에서 공수해온 엉클 벤의 조리밥. (나중에 보니 스위스 쿱에도 엉클 벤 전자렌지용 밥을 팔고 있었다.) 그나저나 저 가든야채 맛 밥은 정말 맛이 없었다.
My first meal in Switzerland was a Korean cup ramen noodle with Uncle Ben's rice that I brought from home while looking out at the Matterhorn.
호텔 앞에는 다리가 있는데 이 곳이 관광객들에게 그렇게도 유명한 마테호른 전망대용 다리다. 날이 맑은 날 아침에 일찍 일어나 마테호른이 햇빛으로 금색으로 물들어가는 일출을 보기 위해 많은 사람들이 몰리는 곳이다.
There is a bridge right close to our hotel. This bridge is the best place to look at Matterhorn. On a very clear day, many people gather here to watch the Matterhorn turn to orangish sunrise color as the sun comes up.
장시간 비행으로 얼굴도 퉁퉁 부었지만 그래도 마테호른과 함께 사진을 남겨본다. 따뜻한 패딩을 입고 여행 준비를 완료한 스카일러 사진으로 마무리 :)
Our faces got a bit puffy after the long flight, but we took some pictures with the Matterhorn. Skylar was ready to start his journey with this warm padding jacket.
