시카고 건축(아키텍처)투어 웬델라 선셋크루즈 후기 🛥️

시카고에서 가장 기대가 되었던, 그리고 그 기대에 부합했던 노을 무렵의 건축물 유람선 투어 이야기. 우리는 인터넷으로 예약을 해뒀고, 내가 알기로는, 웬델라보트로 하루 한 번만 운행되는게 바로 선셋크루즈이다. 공식홈페이지에는 1시간 반동안이라고 나와있는데 체감상 두시간은 족히 넘었던 것 같다. 이 날 날씨가 흐려서 일몰을 못본 게 아쉬웠지만 그럼에도 추천하는 이유는 바다같은 호수에 나와 멋진 빌딩숲을 감상할 수 있었기 때문이다.

I was looking forward to Wendella Sunset Cruise so much. We bought tickets ahead of time online. Wendella's Sunset Cruise is only ran once a day. It says it runs for an hour on their official website. It actually seemed longer than that. The weather was pretty cloudy so we didn't get to see the sunset very clearly. But I still strongly recommend this because the night view of skyline from the cruise is stunning.

Departure

우리 보트 출발 시간은 6시 30분으로 기억하는데(출발시간은 시기마다 바뀐다.), 생각보다 빨리 와서 기다리는 걸 추천한다. 우리는 30분 빨리 도착했음에도 이미 많은 사람들이 기다리고 있었다. 처음 웬델라보트를 탑승하고 나면 시카고 강 쪽으로 뱃머리가 향한다. 주변에 유명한 건축물 소개를 들을 수 있다. 그리고 해가 지기 전, 항구 쪽으로 향한다. 여기서 재미있는 경험을 했다. 시카고 강 수위와 호수의 수위가 달라 앞과 뒤에 게이트가 설치 된 둑 형태로 된 곳에서 기다린다. 뒷 게이트를 닫고 앞 게이트를 서서히 개방해 호숫물이 들어오도록 한다. 웬델라 같이 큰 보트는 강 한 가운데 정박해도 괜찮지만, 상대적으로 작은 보트들은 벽에 붙어서 강한 밀물을 대비해 밧줄을 잡는 모습이 재미있었다. 수위가 호숫물과 완전히 같아지고 나서야 본격적으로 바다같은 미시간 호수로 향할 수 있었다. 왼 편으로는 유명한 피어파크도 보이고, 값 비싼 요트와 유람선이 여기 저기서 보여 더 신이 났다.

Our departure time was 6:30 P.M. as far as I remember. There were many people waiting in line earlier than the time. Once you get on aboard, the cruise heads towards the Chicago river. There is a very knowledgeable guide on the boat. He explains about the buildings. And the cruise turns around to the water gate. There are front gate and back gate. We parked between them. Back gate starts closing. Once it is completely closed they open the front gate. Because the water level of the river is much lower than the lake's. When lake's water fills the gate area completely the same level as the lakes. That's when we can go out to the lake.

Night View

게이트를 넘어 미시간 호수에서 보는 야경들덕에 시간 가는 줄 모르고 구경했다. 물이 많이 튀길까 일부러 레인코트를 입었는데 물이 많이 튀기진 않고, 습해서 나중에 머리카락이 조금 촉촉해지는 정도였다. 날이 점점 저물어가면서 시카고 빌딩 야경들이 더 아름답게 빛났다. 남편과 나는 웬델라 선셋크루즈를 하길 정말 잘했다고, 시카고 여행에서 가장 기억에 남을 거라고 얘기했다. 하루에 한번 운행하는 만큼 다른 분들도 꼭 경험해보셨으면 좋겠다.

We waitied for about 30 minutes. When we were out to the lake, we could see the pier park and many fancy boats there. I put on a raincoat thinking it would splash water, but it was only misty & humid. As the sun went down, the night view was getting better and better. We were so glad to try this Sunset Cruise and thought this would be unforgettable memory. I hope many people try this cruise as well.
