오랜만에 머리 다듬으러 구글로 검색해놓은 앨라배마 주 버밍햄 다운타운에 위치한 Wheelhouse Hair Salon에 갔다. 동네 자체는 구시가지 처럼 보였는데 미용실 안에는 힙한 분위기 뿜뿜. 머리 끝을 일자로 다듬고 숱을 좀 쳐달라고 부탁했다. 마음에 들었음
I found this hair salon in Birmingham, AL on Google. It's called Wheelhouse hair salon. I made an appointment on their website. The neighborhood looked like an old town, but the inside of the salon looked cool. I asked my stylist to trim the ends straight and thin my hair.
머리를 자르고, 버밍햄 최대 쇼핑몰인 더 서밋에 간 날. 러쉬에 가서 배쓰밤을 사려고 보니 아예 입구 조차 막아 놓았다. 유리창 너머로 진열된 배쓰밤을 보고 점원에게 사고 싶은 물품을 얘기하면 입구에서 계산을 해주었다.
We headed to the biggest shopping area in Birmingham, The Summit. I wanted to get some bathbombs at Lush but the entrance was blocked. We picked a few through the window and asked the clerk for them. They let us pay at the entrace lol.
시댁 가족들이 더 서밋으로 도착하는 동안에 어반아웃피터스에서 곱창 묶음을 샀음.
While we were waiting on my in-laws, Me and Skylar went to Urban Outfitters. I got some scrunchies.
시엄마가 가고 싶었던 치즈케익팩토리에 갔다. 대기 시간이 무려 1시간 반....웨이팅 리스트에 이름을 올리고 문자를 받아서 입장할 수 있었다. 내가 고른건 비스트로쉬림프. 역시 네이버 후기가 많은 이유가 있었다. 야채도 많고, 마늘이 많아서 입맛에 딱이었다. 반면 스카일러는 피쉬앤칩스를 골랐는데 정말 별로처럼 보였고 스카일러도 마음에 안들어했다. ㅋㅋㅋ 캡틴디 생선튀김이 나았겠다며...... 다시는 치케팩 안오고 싶다고 함. 치즈케익도 하나 골라서 포장해갔는데, 나는 입맛이 고급지지 않은건지 오히려 퍼블릭스에서 파는 냉동 치케팩 치즈케익이 단단하니 식감이 더 마음에 들었다; 우리 둘 다 치즈케익팩토리에는 한동안 방문하지 않을 것 같음 ㅋㅋ
The reason why we all here were at the Summit was to go to Cheesecake Factory. The waiting time was one and a half hours! We put our name on the waiting list and they texted us when our table is ready. I ordered the Bistro Shrimp. I hardely ever fail when I choose what Naver bloggers recommend. Skylar ordered Fish and Chips. He was not very happy. He rather wanted to get it from Captain D's. lol. I also got a sliced cheese cake to go. I liked frozen Cheesecake Factory's cheesecake at Publix better though. I think I just like hard cheesecake.
치케팩에서 식사를 하고 버밍햄 탑골프에 갔다. 예약하려면 15불을 추가로 내야하는데다가, 예약가능한 슬랏이 없다해서 직접 가봤더니 1층이 싹 다 비워져있어서 자리가 있네 하고 여유롭게 입장했더니 웬걸.. ㅋㅋ 웨이팅이 어마무시했다. 입구까지 올라가는 가파른 계단에 웨이팅 인원들이 자리를 차지하고 있었고, 아마도 야외골프장 1층이 비워져있던 이유는 30% 수용인원을 지키기 위해 꼼수를 부린듯했다. 슬랏 사이사이 비운게 아니라 인기가 없는 자리인 1층을 싹 비워둔 것이었다.
After lunch, we went to Top Golf. We were going to book a slot, but you need to pay $15 for a fee and also it showed none available on the day. We decided to check the place in person. All the pods on the first floor were empty. So we thought we could easily get one until we saw how many people were waiting on the steep stairs to the entrance....... They must have emptied the least popular floor to meet the 30% capacity policy.
그래서 일정을 바꿔 트러스빌에 있는 볼링장으로 향했다. 가격도 탑골프보다 저렴하고, 아케이드(오락실)이 같이 있어서 이것 저것 즐기기 괜찮은 장소였다. 그런데 볼링을 한번 칠 때 마다 볼링핀을 갈아주는 시간이 대략 1분 정도 잡아먹었다. 오류 아니냐고 하니깐, 달리 방도가 없다고 그냥 기다리란다. 근데 게임 당이 아닌 시간 당 가격을 지불하는 거라 이런 시간들이 너무나 아까웠다. -_-^ 그래도 재밌게 쳤음.
So, we changed our plan to bowling! It was a pretty good family-entertainment place with an arcade. Except for it took more than a minute to re-organize the pins every time! The employee said there was nothing they could do. Since we paid by time, it was a waste of time...But we still enjoyed it.
한 게임을 치고 아케이드 쪽으로 가서 그룹 당 10불을 지불하고 게임을 시작했다. 미국 아케이드 게임장은 게임에서 득점을 많이 할 수록 티켓이라는게 충전이 되는데 그 티켓 점수를 가지고 물품을 교환할 수 있게 되어 있다. 마지막 한 게임만 더 할 수 있을 만큼의 돈이 남았을 때, 내가 스카일러보고 티켓 따는 게임 한번 해보자고; 했다. (기대감 제로) 근데 스카일러가 그 인형뽑기 같은 티켓뽑기에서 가장 높은 점수의 티켓인 700 티켓을 뽑아서 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 우리 둘 다 어리둥절했었다. 아무튼 그 덕에 우리의 총 티켓 점수가 850점이 되어, 물건을 고를 수 있는 폭이 훨씬 넓어졌다. 그래서 티켓 800점과 교환한 에어팟 케이스! 돼지 모양이 완전 귀엽고, 공짜로 얻었단 생각에 횡재한 기분이었다. 거기다 쓸모있는 걸 건졌다는 생각에 뿌듯함이 두 배~!
We paid $10 to use the arcade per group. By the time we only have money for one last game, I suggested Skylar to try the ticket draw game. We did not expect anything out of it. Skylar won the most tickets lol. So our final ticket score was 850-ish. I got to exchange with an airpod sillicone case! We both were happy to get something practical for free. How lucky.
신나게 논 다음 날 부터 한쪽 눈이 쓰라리기 시작했다. 왜 그런가 이유를 모른채 콕 콕 쑤시고 붓는 느낌이 든 지 이틀 째에 눈물샘 근처에 다래끼가 생기는 걸 발견.... 미국에서 병원가는 게 한국만큼 쉽지 않기에 걱정이 많이 됐다. 사일차까지 다래끼가 계속 커졌고, 한인타운인 둘루스에 위치한 한국사람 이름의 안과에 전화를 걸어 한국 직원분과 한국어로 예약을 잡고 금요일 아침에 가기로 했다.
My eye started getting itchy and painfull starting next day. I noticed a stye was getting formed near my tear gland. I was worried about seeing a doctor in the U.S., because I knew it would be not as easy as in Korea. The stye was getting bigger and bigger. I finally made an appointment at the eye doctor in Duluth.
새벽 4시에 일어나 준비를 하고 오전 예약 시간에 맞추기 위해 3시간을 내내 달렸다. 안과에 가서 진료를 봤는데 내가 생각한 것과는 다르게 한국인 안과의사가 아니었다. 한국인 이름 안과라서 당연하게 의사도 한국인이라고 의레 짐작했다. 아마 의사가 두 분이 있는 것인지, 아님 한국인 분은 진료를 안보는 날인지, 모르겠지만 아무튼 콩 다래끼라는 걸 알게 되었고 안약과 조금 더 센 항생제를 처방받아 근처 월그린에 가서 약을 샀다.
We woke up at 4 AM in the morning to get to the doctor's office on time and drove 3 hours. When I got there, it was not something I expected. Since the Opthalmology was under a Korean name, I assumed I would be examined by a Korean doctor. But the Korean employee asked me if I needed a translator and that was when I realized I was wrong. Anyway, the doctor told me it was not a stye but a chalazion and he would prescribe an eye drop and antibiotics with more of dosage.
스카일러는 둘루스에서 가장 좋아하는 장소가 바로 마이크로센터다. 최신 전자기기를 파는 상점인데 내가 안과에서 진료 볼 동안, 그곳에 가서 엔비디아에서 새로 출시한 그래픽카드 3080인가를 사러 가겠다고 했다. 스카일러 말로는 이미 스무 명 넘게 줄을 서 있었고, 직원이 이미 5시에 그래픽카드 4개가 와서 다 동났다고만 했다. (사실 스카일러는 운이 좋게도 발매 당일 공홈에서 그래픽카드 주문을 했고, 워낙 희소했기 때문에 그걸 다시 되팔아서 이득을 남겼다고 한다.) 아무튼 그래픽카드는 못 사고, 대신 (그래픽카드가 있어야지만 게임 가능한;) 레이싱게임 용 의자??를 샀다. 집에 핸들과 악셀 부품이 있어서 같이 조립하려고 샀다.
Skylar's favorite place in Duluth is Micro Center with all kinds of electronics. While I was at the doctor's office, he drove there to see if he could get the newest Nvidia graphics card there. There were already 20 people waiting in line and the clerk told him that they got the first shipment at 5 A.M. and people already bought them all. Skylar couldn't get the graphics card there but this playseat.
원래 점심으론 보쌈을 먹으려 했는데 열지 않는 식당이 꽤나 되어서, 단무지로 행선지를 바꾸었다. 단무지는 역시 김밥 맛집이다. 오징어 김밥을 시켰는데 진짜 진짜 맛있었다!!! 스카일러는 돈까스를 시켰는데 소스가 너무 많은 것 빼곤 정말 맛있었다고 했다.
I originally wanted Bossam for lunch but none of the restaurants were open. We went to Dan Moo Ji instead. Their gimbaps are the best. I got this spicy stir-fried squid gimap. Skylar got this Korean Donkatsu for the first time (similar to German Schnitzel) He said it was really good except for there was too much sauce on top.

후식으로는 쿵푸티에 들러 타로티를 주문했다. 우리 둘 다 쿵푸티는 처음이라....♡ 버블티가 뭐가 그리 다를까 했지만, 한 모금 마신 순간 이건 대박이다라는 느낌이었다........... 쿵푸티 초보라 기본에 기본으로만 골랐는데 다음엔 정말이지 다른 맛도 먹어봐야겠다는 생각이 들었다. 존맛....
We stopped by Kung-Fu Tea for a dessert. We tried their bubble tea for the first time. We really didn't think there would be that big of difference from the one we got at the Vietnamese restaurant. As we took one sip, we were like..OhohoH this is sooooo gooood..... It was another level! We picked a very default kinda type of tea, but next time we should try something else.
그리곤 역시나 H 마트에 들러 장을 한 가득 봤다. 금요일 오후라 그런지 사람들이 주말보다는 적어서 여유롭게 장을 볼 수 있었다. 양념고기, 삼겹살, 냉동 식품 등 등 그렇게 과소비를 안한 것 같은데도 꽤 많이 나왔다. ㅋㅋ
And then, we headed to the Hmart to get groceries. There were not as many people as before. I thought I chose only necessary groceries but ended up spending quite a lot.
요즘 미국 주택 대출 이율이 굉장히 낮다. 우리가 집을 샀던 2년 전에만 해도 대출 이율이 지금의 거의 두 배 정도(피크였던듯 -_-)? 그래서 리파이낸스라고 재대출을 받기로 결정했다. 또 엄청난 서류를 제출하고 나서 드디어 파이널 클로징을 했다. 이런 절차들이 처음엔 어떻게 하지 하고 큰 산처럼 보이면서도 나랑 스카일러가 같이 알아보고 한 단계씩 차근 차근 하다보면 어느새 마무리가 되어있는게 신기하기도 하고, 진정한 어른이 된 느낌을 받는다. ㅋㅋ
Mortgage rates are pretty low these days. The rate was about twice higher when we bought the house than now. So we decided to refinance our house. We sent out a lot of paperworks and finally! we closed on our refinance last week. We tend to get overwhelemd by this type of work at first, but once we start working on it step by step, it just amazes me the fact that we finished at the end. It gives me a feeling of being a true grown-up.
한국에서 잘 쓰던 봉 고데기인 보다나가 미국에서도 구입이 가능해서 아마존으로 주문했다. 라벤더 색으로 골랐는데 너무 예쁘고 역시나 기억처럼 잘 말리고 머리가 찝히지 않아서 아주 맘에 들었다. 스카일러도 고데기한 머리가 맘에 든다고 한다. ㅎㅎㅎ 돈 값하는 고데기 쵝오
I used to use a Vodana hair iron back in Korea. I finally got a hand on in here too. I picked a lavender color this time. It was still good just like how I remember. It doesn't pinch my hair but smoothly let it go. Skylar liked my ironed hair as well.
