앨라배마의 주도는 몽고메리라는 도시다. 우리가 사는 곳에서 차로 대략 3-4시간 정도 떨어져있는 곳인데 어번에서 시동생 졸업식이 있어서 내려간 김에 몽고메리에도 들리게 되었다. 이번이 몽고메리를 처음 방문한 건 아니고 지난 번에 영주권 인터뷰가 몽고메리에 있었어서 두번째 방문이었던 셈이다. 앨라배마의 주도에 온 김에 행정건물들과 주청사도 방문해보기로 했다.

Capital of Alabama is Montgomery. It's about 3-4 hours far from where we live. We went to Auburn for my sister in law so we decided to visit Montgomery too. This was not our first time to go to Montgomery. We were there for Greencard interview before. This was our second time and wanted to check out the state capital buildings.

주청사가 나오기 전 몽고메리 동네는 안전해보이지 않았다. 그러다 갑자기 행정건물들이 하나씩 보이더니 단번에 봐도 잘 관리 된 안전한 구역이라는게 느껴졌다. 역시 앨라배마의 행정 도시답게 여러 행정 건물들이 보였다. 주말이라 그런지 사람은 거의 없었고 도로변에 유료주차를 할 수 있게 잘 되어있었다.

On the way to Alabama State Capital, the town seemed very sketchy. All of a sudden,  this safe looking area showed up. There were multiple administrative buildings. There were not many people, maybe it was because We came on Sunday. There were lots of parking meters along the street.

가장 메인 건물인 앨라배마 주도 건물에 올라가보기로 했다. 약간의 언덕이 있었지만 그리 가파르진 않았고 날씨도 정말 맑음 그 자체였다.

We parked on the street and paid only a quarter for 30 minutes. We headed to the main building which is Alabama State Capital.

상징탑에는 역시나 남북전쟁의 주역들이 조각되어 있었다.

A tall monument was there. It seemed like people related to Civil war were carved.

햇빛이 너무 부셔서 눈을 제대로 뜰 수도 없을 정도였다.

The sunlight was so bright that I could barely open my eyes.

주말이라 그런지 청사 내부는 볼 수 없었다.

We couldn't go inside though.

From the building, there was a wide street in front.

계단을 내려가 대로변에서 청사 건물을 바라보기로 했다.

So we took the stairs to the street and looked at the building.

Alabama State Capital Building

사진을 찍기에도 배경으로도 손색없는 곳이다. 그래서인지 대학 졸업 가운을 입고 온 학생과 그 어머니가 이 곳에서 사진을 찍기도 했다.

The building was perfect for photo shoot. We saw some college student in graduation robe with her mom taking pictures here.

다시 주청사 건물 언덕을 올라가면 건물 옆쪽에는 또 다른 공간이 마련되어 있었는데

We walked over the hill and there was another place next to the building.

미국 역사에 대해 잘 알지 못하지만 아마도 남북전쟁과 관련된 깃발과 각 주 관련 깃발들 같았다.

A place with many flags displayed. They must have been about civil war.

30분 주차 시간이 거의 다 되어 건물을 한바퀴 빙 돌아 주차된 곳으로 걸어가기로 했다.

We were running out of time. So we went back to the parking spot walking around the building.

인적도 한산하고 날씨도 좋아서 한번쯤을 들려봐도 좋은 장소였다.

The place was nice to go. Skylar was skeptical going there and he liked it at the end as always-_-a
