미국주택 정원관리 : 잡초와의 전쟁 Weeds in Flower Bed (feat. 7월 마당)

미국 남부 알라바마의 여름은 덥고 무덥다. 이렇게 햇빛이 쨍쨍 내리쬐는 날, 정원 작업을 하고 싶지 않아서 미루고 미뤄오다 잡초들이 급기야 화단을 거의 뒤덮다 싶은 상태가 되어 이대로는 안되겠다 싶었다. 드디어 결단을 내리고 정원관리를 한 날!

It can get really hot in Alabama -southern state of U.S.- We were putting off pulling weeds too long, and now the flower bed was covered in weeds. We finally decided to pull them out of the flower bed today.

화단에 곱게 심어둔 녹아웃 장미 주변에도 잡초들이 퍼지기 시작했다. 특히나 저 줄기처럼 뻗어가는 잡초는 무척이나 질겨서 쉽사리 뽑히지 않는다. 고추 화분 주변에는 정체불명의 덩쿨까지 자라나기 시작함...

Weeds started spreading around my Knock Out rose too. The one creeping over the walkway is so tough that it is not easy to get rid of it. And around my peppers, there was an unidentifiable vine growing.

다른 쪽 화단은 더 심각하다. 저 질긴 잡초들이 완전히 퍼져서 도보 위로 까지 뻗친 상태였다. 이쯤이면 우리가 얼마나 화단을 방치했는지 티가 난다. ㅋㅋ;

On this side it is more serious. The tough one is totally covering our flower bed. You can tell how long we abandoned our flower bed.

이 관목을 뚫고 나오는 잡초 때문에 한참을 웃었다. 너무 웃기지 않나...정말 우리 게을렀구나!

I burst out laughing because of the sticking out weeds. It is ridiculous!

본격 작업 착수. 역시나 이 잡초는 마디마디가 툭툭 끊겨 뽑기가 쉽지 않다. 나중에 미처 다 못 뽑은 부분은 제초제를 뿌려줄 것이다.

Finally we were on it. This tough one breaks off in sections. We couldn't get rid of its roots. We will spray weed killer on the rest.

구석탱이 잡초 뽑았더니 한 뭉텅이 나온 거 실화?; 

This amount of weeds was only from that corner.

왼쪽은 스카일러가 오른쪽 봉투는 내가 뽑은 잡초 양이다.

Skylar filled the left bag and I pulled the right bag of weeds.

#코스트코제초제

뽑은 잡초 위로 제초제를 한번 더 뿌려서 확실히 잡초를 제거해준다. 이 제초제는 코스트코에서 두개 묶음으로 산건데 값도 저렴하고, 스프레이가 함께 있어서 뿌리기 용이하게 되어 있다.

We made sure to kill the rest that was still in the flower bed with this weed killer. I bought two of this at Costco. The sprayer comes with the liquid. It's very useful.

그렇게 많이 뽑았는데도 아직도 많이 남은 곳. 저 잡초는 정말 질겨서 잘 안 뽑힌다. 제초제를 듬뿍 뿌려서 이번 기회에 뿌리 뽑아야겠다. 이 구석에는 데이비드오스틴 장미를 심기 위해 자리를 비워놓았다. 아직 날이 더워 장미를 심어도 바로 죽기 때문에, 배송을 9월 말 쯤 받을 예정이다.

Even though we pulled two full bags of weeds, there was still quite a lot left. I sprayed a lot of weed killer on it. Because I am planning to plant a British rose bush in that spot this coming fall. 

완벽하게 제거하지는 못했지만, 그래도 잡초 뽑기 전과 비교하면 훨씬 나아진 화단 모습. 다음에는 저 관목 나무들 다듬기를 할 예정이다.

We couldn't pull all of them, but our flower bed looks much better than before.
