[4월 가드닝] 미국 화단에 수양 벚나무 심기 Planting a Weeping Cherry Tree

 

Our backyard was flooded because of a bad storm two days ago. The new flower bed was even worse since it was lower than the ground level. We went to Lowe's (I believe we wouldn't go back there for a while.) to get some dirt. And I spotted this little weeping cherry tree...lol!

요전날 온 태풍 때문에 뒷 마당 대부분이 물에 잠겼다. 화단은 말할 것도 없고^^; 아무래도 땅을 파서 지대가 낮아지는 바람에 거의 인공호수 한 가운데 사는 것 같아 보일 정도로 비가 내렸다. 다음날 서둘러서 화단에 채울 흙을 구매하러 로우스에 다녀왔다. (이제 바이러스 위험을 피하기 위해 당분간 로우스는 가지 않을듯) 흙을 사러 갔지만, 뒷마당 화분에 적당한 크기의 나무가 있었으면 좋겠다고 생각했는데 마침 발견한 나무가 이거다 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

 

 

 

 

Weeping Yoshino Cherry Tree

The variety is Weeping Yoshino Cherry tree. The branches head down to the ground like willow trees. Cherry trees already bloomed a long time here in Alabama but I am looking forward to next Spring. I don't think weeping trees are quite as popular in Korea as in Albama. You see weeping trees (not only weeping cherry trees) in many flower beds.

바로 수양 벚나무(능수벚나무) 수양버들처럼 가지가 아래로 떨어지는 벚꽃나무다. 안타깝게도 이 곳 미국 알라바마 주에서 벚꽃은 한참 전에 폈지만^^; 내년 봄이 또 있으니깐! 한국에서는 수양벚나무가 조경수로는 별로 인기있는 것 같진 않은데 미국 남부 앨라배마에서는 수양벚나무 뿐만 아니라 이런 수양버들 형태의 나무를 화단에서 자주 발견할 수 있다.

 

 

 

 

The tag says it will grow to 7 feet tall and 10 feet wide. I thought it was a small variety for cherry trees. But when I googled the mature size of weeping Yoshino cherry trees, the size was quite different from the tag's. So I am not really sure. If it looks to grow much bigger than I thought, I would probably have to transplant this later.

평균 최종 크기는 위로는 7풋(2.13미터)에 도달하고 옆으로는 10풋(3미터)가 커진다고 한다. 벚나무치고 작은 사이즈 처럼 보여서 사왔는데 구글에 검색해보면 또 이것과는 확연히 다른 사이즈가 나와서... 너무 커지면 나중에 옮겨야할 듯 싶다.

 

 

 

Anyway, for now it looked great in this spot! I also filled the flower bed with new soil.

자리를 잡고 이 곳에 심었다. 사온 흙으로 화단을 채워주었다.

 

 

 

How windy it was, most of top soil in the bed was blown away. Because there were not many plants planted yet, it was easier for soil to get blown. Compared to the bird bath area where more plants are, this empty corner was much worse.

어찌나 태풍 바람이 셌는지 요전에 화단에 뿌렸던 상토가 다 날라가 버렸다는 ㅠㅠ 식물이 아직 없는 휑한 구역이라 정도가 더 심했다. 버드배쓰 근처 식물이 비교적 빽빽한 곳은 흙 소실 정도사 훨 덜 했다.

 

 

 

I bought another foxglove at Lowe's....You know, it was my LAST visit..

그리고 폭스글러브(디기탈리스)도 하나 더 사왓음..ㅎ 욕심이란 끝이 없다!

 

 

As the sun goes down, the lanter turns on! It is not bright enough to light up the whole bed. 

밤이 되자 태양열 랜턴이 불을 밝혔다. 생각보다 조도가 낮아서 주위를 밝힐 정도는 아니고 ㅋㅋㅋ 그냥 소품 하나 있구나 정도 ㅎ

 

 

 

It looks much better with a vertical strucutre for sure. I am so glad I planted a weeping tree. Hope it will do well.
확실히 나무를 심으니깐 화단이 훨씬 차 보인다. 앞으로 잘 자라주기를 !!
