SOHO, cooper union, union square park

뉴욕 여행 이틀차 유니언스퀘어파크

사이공마켓에서 점심을 든든히 먹은 후 워싱턴스퀘어를 향해 걸어가다(라고 생각했지만) 만난 교회다.

교회인데도 마치 중세 건물을 보는 것 같아서 신기했다.

We had a big lunch at Saigon market.

We thought we were heading to Washington Square but actually that was in the opposite direction.

We saw this church that looked like a middle age's building.

뉴욕은 땅값이 비싼데도 불구하고 정원까지 있는 교회인 걸 보면 꽤나 오래전에 지어졌거나 교회가 돈이 많거나 둘 중 하나라고 생각했다-_-a

Even though the price of NYC land is so expensive this church has its own garden,

I guess either this church has a lot of money or it was built a long time ago.

교회보다는 성당에 더 가까운 듯 했는데, 

이 날 이 성당에 무슨 아이들을 위한 행사가 있었던지 많은 아이들과 부모들이 모여 뭔가를 하고 있었다.

It seemed more like a Catholic church.

There were many kids and parents doing something at the church.

가끔 남편은 나보다 방향치일 때가 있는데, 

워싱턴스퀘어파크에 가자고 해놓고는 정 반대편으로 걸어 도착한 유니언스퀘어파크다.

Sometimes my husband has no sense of direction,

We wanted to go to Washington park and eventually we got to Union park which is the opposite way of it.

공원이 큰 편은 아니었지만 벤치가 많아 잠시 쉬어가는 장소로 역할을 톡톡히 하고 있었다.

아 이 공원에서는 특유의 냄새가 났는데 그게 대마향이었다는 걸 늦게야 알았다.

저 사진에 경찰들이 벤치에 앉은 사람들보고 여기서 대마 피지 말라고 경고했는데,

사람들 다 하고 있는데 왜 우리한테만 제재하냐고 반박했다.

This park wasn't very big but it was a perfect place to take a break sitting on the bench.

I did smell something weird and unique all around the park,

I realized later that it was weed.

The cops warned them not to smoke weed in this park.

They refused saying everyone here was smoking weed and it was fine.

아무튼 나로써는 너무나 이국적인 향이라 공원을 급히 떠나는데,

알고보니 저 현수막에 대마축제라고 써있는 게 아닌가?

그래서 그 사람들이 왜 우리한테만 뭐라하냐고 그랬나보다 ㅋㅋ....

경찰들은 공공장소에서 하지 말라고 제재한 듯 하고. 참.. 어렵다.

To me the smell was super exotic and it made me want to leave the park soon.

The placard said "Cannabis parade" lol.

I guess that was why the people felt it was unfair to be warned.

While the cops didn't want people to do it in public. hmm.

다시 워싱턴파크로 향하려다보니, 사이공마켓 거리를 다시 보게 되었다.

We met the street of Saigon market again on the way to Washington Square park.

뉴욕대학교 건물 바로 옆에 위치한 워싱턴스퀘어파크 :D

작년 미국에 왔을 때 넷플릭스에서 두뇌게임이라는 다큐를 봤는데 그게 워싱턴스퀘어파크에서 촬영되었던 거로 기억한다.

This park is literally next to NYU buildings.

I watched this documentary about brain games on Netflix last year,

I remembered it was filmed here.

큰 분수도 있어서 가끔은 분수 물이 바람에 실려오기도 했다.

이 신발은 뉴욕 무지 타임스퀘어점에서 산 무지퍼셀인데, 내껀 왜인지 몰라도 신발 바닥이 울퉁불퉁해서 걸을 때마다 무지 아팠다. 

There was a big fountain.

Sometimes the water was blown onto me.

I bought the sneakers at Muji (at Times Square), somehow the insole was so bumpy that it hurt my foot a lot.

광장에서 사진을 찍고 있는데 갑자기 여학생 무리가 오더니 자기네 사진 좀 찍어달라 그랬다.

세명의 젊은 여대생들이 분수 앞에서 함께 앉아있는 모습만으로도 젊음이 참 좋다고 생각하게 되는 걸 보면

나도 이제 진짜 아줌마가 되어가는 건가 싶다. ㅡ_ㅡ

Some girls asked me to take pictures of them at the fountain.

I thought they looked so young and I envied their youth.

It made me realize that I'm getting old -_-;

워싱턴스퀘어파크도 구경하고 이젠 우리 모두 다리가 아파서 쉴 곳이 필요했다.

We needed a break.

그리하여 방문한 조스커피. 여기가 소호근처였는데 신기하게도 지하철 출구가 카페 바로 앞에 있다.

So we visited this cafe -Joe's Juice- at Soho.

The exit of the subway station was just right in front of the cafe.

나는 스무디, 남편은 커피를 시켰는데 바리스타들이 춤만 추고 남편 커피는 오랫동안 만들어주지 않았다고 한다.

그래서 손 시렵게 내 스무디 들고 카운터에 오래 서있다가 결국 다시 물어봤더니, 아마 주문을 까먹은 듯 했다.

그래서 남편은 조스커피 싫었다고 -_-;

I ordered a strawberry smoothie and my husband got a coffee.

The 10 baristas were just dancing and they weren't making his coffee for minutes.

His hands were freezing holding my smoothie waiting on his coffee.

He had to ask them for it and they seemed to have forgotten.

So my husband didn't like this cafe very much.

안그래도 무지에 한번 더 들려 쇼핑을 하고 싶었는데, 남편이 소호에 특별한(?) 무지가 있다며

데려간 모마 디자인스토어. -_-

알고보니 예전에 무지와 제휴를 맺어 모마 기념품들을 만들어 주는 디자인샵 같은데,

그 제휴마저도 이제는 헤이(브랜드)로 바뀐 듯 했다. 

We wanted to shop one more time at Muji.

My husband said there was a special Muji at SOHO and led me there.

It turned out that was a MOMA's special gift shop.

I guess Muji was MOMA's collaborator before and they made items.

Now their partner was not Muji but Hay.

그리하여 다시한번 폭풍검색으로 무지 위치를 알아냈다.

집념 하나는 알아줘야 하는 듯 .ㅎㅎ

쿠퍼유니온 근처에 무지 샵이 있었다.

So we had to search for real Muji again and it was at Cooper Union.

다리가 엄청 뽀개질 것 같았지만 T_T

이 날 저녁 라이언킹을 볼 예정이었으므로 여행 시간을 최대한 활용해야 했다!

My feet were killing me but we didn't want to waste time.

이 곳 무지에서 30%할인 가격으로 가디건도 사고, 남편 셔츠도 샀다 :D

다시 호텔에 돌아가 누적된 피로를 짧은 낮잠으로 풀어냈다.

I bought a cardigan with a 30% discount.

He bought a shirt too.

We went back to the hotel and took a short nap.
