미국 앨라배마 주 Attalla 카약 체험

스카일러 생일을 맞아 특별한 추억을 남기고 싶었는데,

예전에 봐두었던 카약체험을 해보기로 결심했다.

We wanted to do something special for Skylar's birthday.

We decided to try Kayaking.

미국 알라바마 주 어탤라 라는 곳에 위치한 Big Will's Outfitters.

비포장 도로를 지나 들어간다.

The place is in Attalla, Alabama named Big Will's Outfitters.

You have to drive unpaved road to get there.

적당한 곳에 주차하고, 건물 안으로 들어가서 안전에 대한 책임 관련 서류에 사인한다.

직원 분께 블로거인데 혹시 사진 찍어도 되냐고 여쭤봤더니 찍고 싶은 만큼 얼마든지 찍으라고 하셨다 :D

We parked in front of the house and we walked into the building.

Then we signed on the waiver.

I asked the lady if I could take pictures because I'm a blogger and she said I could take as many pictures as I want ^^.

조금 내려가면 있는 다른 주차장에 다시 주차를 하고,

그럼 승합차가 우리를 태우고 카약 장소로 데려간다고 하셨다.

There was another parking lot down there,

There would be a van to pick us up.

픽업 차를 기다리는 동안, 거대한 의자가 있어서 기념 사진도 찍었다.

While we were waiting, we took some pictures on this big chair.

한 3분도 안돼서 도착한 차를 타고, 6마일(10km)를 넘게 달린다.

꽤나 먼 곳에 우리를 내려주신 뒤 구명조끼 하나씩 집으라고 하셨다.

In about 3 minutes, the car arrived and drove for 6 miles.

It was pretty far way and they told us to grab a life jacket.

카약할 때 은근 물이 많이 튀어서 카메라를 들고가는 건 비추천하지만,

갤럭시 S8은 방수가 된다고 해서 혹시 물이 들어가더라도 괜찮을 거라 생각했다.

I don't recommend taking a camera with you because water splashes when you kayak.

But our phone Galaxy S8 was supposed to be water-proof, so we thought it would be fine.

차에서 카약을 내려 하나씩 개울(?)에 놓아주신다.

카약 초보자들이라 패들을 어떻게 돌리는 지도 몰랐는데,

팔을 그대로 뻗어 주먹을 쥔다. (아래 그림 참조, 출처 구글)

They moved kayaks onto the creek.

We were such beginners didn't know how to paddle.

You just straighten your arms and grab the paddle like the picture below.

(I gripped it having my fists towards me at first.) <- wrong way.

처음엔 몰랐는데, 팔도 간격을 넓혀서 가장자리를 잡아줘야 힘이 덜 들면서 잘 나간다.

It's better for you to hold it far.

풍경이 너무 아름다워서 마치 신선이 된 것 마냥 처음엔 잔뜩 들떴었다. 

6마일이 얼마나 먼 지 몰랐었지...........

그리고 다행이었던게 구름이 낀 날씨어서 선선하게 즐길 수 있었다.

We were excited for the scenery.

I didn't know how far 6 miles would be...... (I'm still learning american measure system.)

Luckily, It was cloudy.

중간에 만난 말 떼들. 흰 말은 스카일러와 함께 걸어주기도 했다. ㅋㅋ

We met horses and donkeys.

The white horse walked along with Skylar.

중간 중간 핑크 사인으로 몇 마일 남았는지 발견할 수 있다고 하셨는데

이렇게 작은 표지판일 줄은 몰랐다. 

They said there would be pink signs that tell how miles left.

They were so small lol.

한 중간 쯤 갔을까? 스카일러한테 "저기 멀리에 검은 동물들이 보여!!!"라고 했는데,

알고보니 흑우였던 것..........

3 miles after, I told Skylar I see black animals ahead.

They turned out to be black cows.

거의 30마리가 넘는 소 떼들이 물을 건너고 있었던 것이었다.

우리가 지나갈 때 쯤에는 두 마리가 물길 가운데에 있었는데 막상 그렇게 큰 소들을 이 야생(?)에서 보려니까 겁이 덜컥 났다.

Almost over 30 cows were walking across the water.

Two big cows were in the water.

They looked so scary when we saw them that close.

스카일러는 이상한 소리를 내면서 우리가 다가가고 있음을 소들에게 전했다 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Skylar made weird noises to tell them we were coming lol.

몇십마리의 큰 소들이 두 마리의 하찮은 닝겐들을 바라보던 그 눈빛을 잊을 수가 없다.

<소의 세계에 미천한 두 인간> 의 느낌............

I can't forget how they looked at us.

It was like.... two humans in cow's world.

So weird to be a minor specie...(?)

이상한 소음을 만들어낸 덕분에 소들이 물을 건너는 걸 잠시 중단시키고

우리는 전속력으로 페달을 돌려 운전했건만,

그 다음 소 떼 무리가 또 있었던 것.

Thank god they stopped walking across the water for us.

We sped up as hard as possible to pass them.

But, there was another group for cows...................!!!!

딱 봐도 "리더"인 거대한 소가 물 한 가운데에 서서 비키질 않고

그 옆을 지키는 2인자로 보이는 소가 되려 울음소리를 내며 우리에게 경고하는 것이었다.

I could tell the cow in the water was their leader.

He wouldn't move and another cow next to him seemed like second-in-command.

And the cow warned us making noises.

이 정도로 야생을 경험할 거라고 생각 못했는데,,

알고보니 그 리더인 소는 물에서 대변을 보고 있었는데 우리가 계속 전진하자

고맙게도(?) 자리를 비켜줬다. (그의 응가는 멈추지 않았다는..)

I didn't expect this kayaking to be wilderness;;

The leader cow was pooping but he finally moved for us (didn't stop pooping tho)

와, 혹시라도 그 리더가 화가나서 저 닝겐들을 죽이자!! 하고 몇십만마리들의 소들이 우리한테 달려들었더라면 하는 상상이 계속됐다.... ㅋㅋ;

I couldn't help imagining the herd of cows got mad at us and attacked.

중간 중간 작은 폭포들도 만났는데, 길을 잘못 정하면 저렇게 끼이기 다반사였다. ㅋㅋ비가 한동안 오지 않아서 수심이 낮은 상태라 발생하는 일인 것 같았는데그래서였는지 더 재밌었는지도 모른다.We met some water falls, if you choose wrong ways then you get stuck.It didn't rain for a while so the water was low.Maybe it made this more fun.

스카일러는 여기 오기 전에 과연 값어치를 할까 걱정했었는데,

카약을 세시간 반 넘게 타고 나니 그런 걱정은 그저 기우에 지나지 않았다......

평생 탈 카약을 오늘 하루 다 타본 것 같았음.

제발 언제 끝나냐고 ~~~ 생각 할 정도

Skylar was worried if this would be worth it.

After 3 hours of kayaking, he found it worth it.

I guess we kayaked more than enough today.

중간 중간 카메라로 사진 찍다보면 물살에 의해 카약이 돌아가거나, 아님 물가 쪽으로 떠내려가는데

하필이면 가지가 엄청 많은 곳에 끼어서 ㅠㅠ 고생했다.

거대한 거미가 보트로 떨어지기까지 했음....무섭..

Sometimes when I was filming, I got carried away by the current.

There were many branches and I got stuck there -_-a

Even a big spider fell down on my boat.

우리가 간과한게 이 곳 카약이 보통 3시간 - 4시간 걸림에도

물 하나도 보트에 싣지 않았다는 것.

We should have brought some water in the boat.

Because this kayaking can take 4 hours at most.

다른 사람들 보니깐 보온가방을 하나씩 카약에 두고

적당한 곳에 보트를 잠시 세워둬 점심을 먹는 듯 했다.

Other people even brought coolers and pulled over some place to have lunch.

우린 살기 위해서라도 노를 젓는 수 밖에 없었다. ㅋㅋ

We had to paddle hard to survive without water and food lol.

드디어 도착한 종착점.

우리가 주차했던 바로 그 곳이다.

카약을 끌어 올려 두면 된다. 꽤나 무거웠다.

Finally we made it!

This is where we got in the van!

We moved the kayaks and they were heavy.

나중에 보니 우리 말고도 많은 사람들이 와서 카약 체험을 하고 있었다.

There were more people who parked there.

물도 꽤나 많이 튀고 햇빛도 강렬할 때가 있어서

다음 번에 오게 된다면

타월, 모자, 보온백, 물, 간단히 먹을거리, 갈아입을 바지를 필수로 가져와야겠다.

Next time we should bring towels, hats, cooling bags, water, snacks, shorts to change.

인당 25달러주고 한 번쯤 해볼 경험이라고 생각한다.

It was worth it for 25 dollars!
