1. 배수로(거터) 설치하기 Installing Gutters
미국에서 주택 살다보면 관리에 손이 정말 많이 간다. 우리 신축 주택에는 거터라고 배수로가 없어서 비가 많이 오는 날에는 지붕을 따라 특정한 부분에 물이 와장창 쏟아지는 바람에 멀치가 이리저리 튀어서 화단도 보기 안좋아지고, 작년 겨울에 역대급으로 비가 자주 오는 바람에 집 뒷편에는 집을 따라 거의 물 고랑이 생기기도 했다. 그래서 드디어 마음을 먹고 설치하게 된 거터. 처음 무료 견적을 두 업체에서 받아보고 더 신뢰가는 쪽으로 선택했다. 거터를 설치 후에는 또 다운스파우트에 추가적으로 플라스틱 관을 연결해서 배수 방향을 설정해주었다.
There are many things to manage a house living in the U.S. We didn't have gutters, whenever it poured down, lots of water gathered sliding the roof and dumped down in certain spots. It ruined our flower bed and sank the ground along the back of the house. We finally made a decision to install gutters and got free estimate from two companies. We bought a few extentions for downspouts to direct water.
2. 미국 정원 관리 : 코스트코 장미 심기, 꽈리 고추 Knock-out Rose & Peppers in Flower Bed
집을 구매했을 때 화단이 예쁘게 잘 되어 있어서 뭘 더 심어볼 생각을 한동안 안하다가 코스트코에서 발견한 녹아웃 장미를 심었더니 진한 빨간색의 장미 꽃들이 우리 집을 훨씬 더 아름답게 보이게 해주었다. 장미의 아름다움에 반해 영국장미인 데이비드오스틴 장미에서 영국장미 3-4가지를 추가로 구입했는데, 가을에 받아볼 예정이다. 또 꽈리고추 씨앗을 뿌려 지금은 먹고 싶을 때마다 화단에 나가서 고추를 따와서 먹고 있다.
I hadn't had a thought to change the flower bed for a while. I found this knock-out rose at Costco and planted it in my flower bed. This vivid rose color is poping out. That made me want more roses, and I bought 3 English roses from David & Austin. They are gonna be shipped in fall. Also, I planted Korean pepper seeds. I simply get fresh Korean peppers from my front yard when I want some.
3. 흔한 미국 남부 알라바마 주의 일몰 Sunset & Solar Garden Lights
얼마전 석양이 어찌나 붉게 물들었는지 앞마당을 가로질러 사진을 찍어보았다. 화단에는 태양광으로 충전되는 조명들을 구매해 심었는데(?) 아주 마음에 든다.
A few days ago, the sunset was so beautiful. I recently bought more solar garden lights to put across the flower bed.
4. 미국 앨라배마 헌츠빌 탑골프 Topgolf, Huntsville, Alabama
헌츠빌에 탑골프라고 캐주얼한 골프장이 생긴지 일년정도 넘었는데 드디어 마음을 먹고 시부모님과 함께 다녀왔는데 정말 재미있었다. 헌츠빌에 데이비드 버스터즈도 이번 년도에 생기고 한국 바베큐 식당도 생긴다고 해서 너무 기대가 된다.
It has been more than a year since Topgolf started business in Huntsville. Skylar, his parents and I went there. It was really fun. David & Buster's and even Korean BBQ restaurant are going to open in Huntsville this year. I can't wait to go there!
5. 사내 이직 Job Transition
일년 반동안 넘게 광고팀에서 그래픽디자이너로 일하다가 사내 면접을 보고 회계팀으로 이직하였다. 개인 오피스도 생기고, 좀 더 내 일에 집중할 수 있는 환경이다. 광고팀 직원들이 나를 정말 가족처럼 대해주고 떠나는 날에 다같이 편지도 써주고 회계팀 일이 안맞으면 언제든 돌아오라고 해줘서 눈물이 났다. 흑 ㅠ 그분들과 일할 수 있었던 건 정말이지 행운이었다.
I worked as a graphic designer in Advertising department for one and a half years. I decided to move to accounting. I have my own office and it helps me to focus on my work better. It was really sad to leave Advertising where such sweet people are. Everybody in that department wrote a postcard for me and gave me a gift. They told me I could come back if I didn't like my new job. I was so lucky to get to know & work with these sweet people.
6. 파더스데이 낚시 Father's Day
이번 아버지의 날에는 다같이 건터스빌 호수에서 낚시를 하기로 했는데 미국에서 낚시를 하려면 낚시 자격증이 필요하다. 자격증이라 해서 거창할 건 없고, 그냥 돈주고 낚시 허가증을 구입하는 것이다. 그런데 낚시자격증을 사려면 운전면허증이 필요한데 나는 외국인용 운전면허증이라서 앨라배마 주민이 아니라 발급이 안됐다. 그런 사람들은 홈페이지에 가서 사야한다던데 여권번호까지 입력하라고 해서 골치아파서 나는 그냥 다른 사람들 낚시 구경만 했다. 나같이 낚시자격증 없는 사람들은 낚시대라도 만졌다가는 어디선가 감시하고 있던 사람이 나타나서 벌금을 때린다고 했다....... 그로부터 일주일 지나자 무료 낚시 데이가 있었다. 일년에 한번, 자격증없이도 누구나 낚시할 수 있는 날이라고 한다. 귀찮아서 안갔다. ㅋㅋ
For Father's day, we all went out to fish to Guntersville lake. To fish in the U.S., you have to buy a fishing license. A "License" sounds pretty serious but fishing license is more likely a ticket to use government property. I went to buy a fishing license and I showed my driver's license. The lady told me I couldn't buy one there but from their website since my license is based on foreign nation. So I checked out the official website, to buy a non-residential fishing license, I had to enter my passport information. It just gave me a headache, I decided to watch my in-law's fishing. Without a fishing license, you need to be careful not to touch a fishing rod. There could be a watcher and you can be charged a fine for that.
7. 벨라 근황 Bella
벨라가 창문 밖 구경을 좋아해서 실베드라고 찍찍이를 이용해 창가에 붙일 수 있는 침대를 사주었는데 애용해서 너무 만족이다. ^_______^
We bought Bella a window sill bed that can be attached with Belcro. Bella has been enjoying it.
